6 Common Fitness Struggles and How to Overcome Them
Want the cold, hard truth about improving your fitness? It’s not easy. In fact, sticking to a regular workout routine can be daunting. Consistency is easier said than done, but it’s the best secret to accomplish any significant change in your life.
If you find yourself struggling with fitness in your pro cheer audition prep journey, this article offers actionable tips to overcome them. These should help you through those tough days. You got this!
Fitness Struggle #1: You’re feeling lazy and unmotivated.
There’s a saying that motivation gets you started while habit gets you going. But what if you’re not even motivated to start with? Here’s what you should know: Action creates motivation. Meaning, you need to ACT FIRST for the right emotions to follow. Just show up! Put on those running shoes. Head out the door before 6am. Don’t overthink it. When the sun shines, I promise you that you’ll feel most accomplished and have a hunger to DO IT AGAIN.
Fitness Struggle #2: You can’t finish a workout.
You’re stuck in the middle of a workout! You had the best intentions but you felt exhausted. Know that that’s OKAY. I know it can be discouraging. Don’t be discouraged. The most important thing is that you’re making progress. You can reduce the number of reps or just stop in the middle of a tough move and do jumping jacks instead.
Fitness Struggle #3: You can’t give up unhealthy food that you love
Healthy eating is something that a lot of women struggle with. We know very well that to lose weight, we need to eat more whole foods and eat less of junk. But here’s the thing: Eating healthier doesn’t have to be less enjoyable because you’re restricting a lot of things. Since you’ll need to give up some foods anyway, what you should do is to find healthy yet tasty alternatives!
Fitness Struggle #4: You lack energy to exercise
If you’re often experiencing low energy levels at the gym, you need to explore all possible reasons. You may be lacking quality sleep at night. Or if you started a new diet, your body could be adjusting to it. It’s also possible that you’re not fueling yourself enough for the gym! Sometimes, it can be caused by an underlying condition - so be sure to consult with your doctor.
Fitness Struggle #5: You don’t have enough time to exercise
Don’t we all want to have more hours on our plate? A lack of time to accomplish something is probably everyone’s biggest concern. It takes creativity to make the most out of the time you have. One tip I always offer is to do it first thing in the morning. That way, you experience not just the benefits of getting it done early, but also the extra fat burning potential of a fasted workout. Another strategy is to sneak movement into your day. Take the stairs at work. Take a 10-15-minute walk after your lunch break.
Fitness Struggle #6: You can’t afford gym memberships
You don’t have to. There’s no need to spend a ton of money to achieve fitness. We’re lucky to live in an age where information is widely available. All it takes is a “Google search” to find workouts for every fitness level. Here at Pro Cheer Life, I also offer a FREE POM FIT CLASS for aspiring pro cheerleaders. It’s a beginner-friendly audition prep class that teaches you great cardio moves!
