6 Foods to Avoid Before a Pro Cheer Audition
Many of us don’t give lots of thought to the food we eat prior to a big performance. While foods can be nourishing, the wrong choices cause stomach discomfort and make you want to run to the ladies room. You don’t want that on your big day. What you want is to feel good so you can focus on delivering a great performance. The night before or the morning of the pro cheer auditions, be sure to avoid these foods.
1. Anything that’s spicy
Spicy foods may be your favorite, but they’re notorious for causing heartburn. They affect the acid levels in your stomach in a way that triggers acid reflux. Skip the spicy additives. Keep your meal neutral. Your tummy will thank you.
2. Alcohol
Drinking an alcoholic beverage the night before the big day may sound like a good idea to calm your nerves, but it sabotages your athletic performance. Alcohol depletes your energy and may lead to poor memory. Nothing beats meditation or a good night’s sleep for relaxation.
3. Sugary breakfast cereal
Sugar-laden foods like cereals spike your blood sugar and lead to energy crashes. The result? You’re going to feel less alert and more sleepy during the auditions. Opt for a natural, low-sugar option like an egg omelet or steamed fish.
4. Vegetables and fruits that cause gas
Vegetables and fruits are good for you. But if you’re not careful, you might eat those that give you gas. Examples of these veggies are cabbage, broccoli, celery, onions, sweet potatoes, and asparagus. Gassy fruits include apples, oranges, mangoes, peaches, and watermelons.
5. Coffee
Ahh, who doesn’t love a cup of coffee in the morning? While it gives you an energy boost, it will cause frequent trips to the toilet. Coffee contains caffeine which is a diuretic. Your bladder fills more quickly. Coffee also stimulates acid production which can cause stomach cramps and diarrhea.
6. Dairy
Butter, milk, and cheese -- don’t consume these options for breakfast if you’re lactose-intolerant. People who are lactose-intolerant experience an intense amount of bloating, diarrhea, and gas.

- Chia seed pudding with non-dairy almond milk
- Fish fillet
- Tuna stuffed avocado
- Bok choy breakfast bowl
- Anti-bloat smoothies like cucumbers and bananas
- Gluten-free sandwiches
- Meat (beef, chicken, and turkey)
- Water!!!
