6 Ways to Stand Out at a Pro Cheer Audition

One thing that an aspiring professional cheerleader wants the most is to stand out and be seen by the judges as a “potential.” Standing out in the professional cheerleading sense means that you are unique but make a great match for your NFL or NBA dance team.

The question is, how do you actually do it when there are probably hundreds of candidates competing for the same spot? My recommendations below will help you.

How do you stand out as an arena cheerleader candidate?

1. Choose a hair color that fits in with the team.

It’s SAFEST to dye your hair based on the colors that have already been approved by the director of the team. If you like a certain color but haven’t seen it on any of your squad’s pro cheerleader, better stay away from it.

2. Curl your hair.

This tip applies to you if you’ve been trying to decide which hairstyle to use and that your hair responds well to heat and curlers. Wash your hair first. Towel dry. Next, apply a leave-in conditioner, followed by a styling product (alcohol-free gel or styling spray). Dry your hair. Use Velcro curlers. While the curlers are on, dry your hair using the hottest but lowest speed setting. After unrolling the curlers, brush out the curls then apply some shine!

3. Apply false lashes.

Fake eyelashes boost your beauty since they add fullness to your lashes. The huge benefit of faux lashes is that your eyes look more dramatic and alive. If this is your first time to apply them, get a lighter fringe so that you get used to the feeling of having them.

4. Get a tan to look more toned.

Do you want your body to appear well-defined? Enhancing your physique can be achieved in an instant if you get a tan. The shadowy effect of tanning does the trick. To create the best look, aim for a natural tan. It’ll give you a sun-kissed effect. Make sure that your face and body have the same color.

5. Wear a glamorous dance top.

Remember that although professional cheerleading is a sport, the women look glamorous - not sporty! Think Las Vegas. You can turn a plain sports bra into a dazzling top with a little creativity. Add some embellishment or sparkle. Or, you can purchase a top inspired by the ones worn by your team. Check websites like Amazon (enter “dance tops”) or The Lineup.

6. Always be in audition mode.

Whether you’re spending some downtime or learning choreography, use body language as an effective tool. Showing the judges and other participants that you are in an audition mode (at all times) changes their perception of you. Stand with confidence. Do not slouch. Show your best smile. Keep your movements big and bold when you dance.
