7 Mental Shifts You Should Make Before You Become A Pro Cheerleader

As Thomas Jefferson, the founding father, said, “If you want something you've never had, you must be willing to do something you've never done.” In your journey to becoming a pro cheerleader, that means you must open your mind to learning, unlearning, forgiveness, tolerance, faith, and originality. To understand what I mean, keep on reading until the end.

1. Be open to learning, unlearning, and relearning

During your journey to be a pro cheerleader, you will learn plenty of things regarding fitness, dancing, nutrition, and personal development. Some tips work for you while others don’t. You should know when to unlearn the strategies that do you no good and dig deeper into the ones that bring you success.

Don’t forget about your past experiences as well. You can relearn any important lessons you’ve encountered before and apply them to your pro cheer endeavors.

2. Be more forgiving

In life, pain, mistakes, and wrongdoings are unavoidable. People will hurt you and you can do things that would hurt yourself. But should you waste your time brooding about your shortcomings? Should you lose focus on achieving your pro cheer goals and harbor a grudge on others’ faults? Of course not. Learn to let go but never forget.

3. Treat your time and energy like gold

Our time in this world is precious. We only live one life as there is no rewind. Make it count. When you’re achieving a goal, avoid procrastinating. Stay away from the people who hold you back. Better yet, cut ties with those who invite nothing but negativity into your life.

Be in the company of people who are eager to support your pro cheer ambitions. If you can’t find one, learn to work hard alone.

4. Understand that not all thoughts and ideas are equal

We humans think a lot. However, not all thoughts are positive or helpful. Some are pessimistic in nature and are detrimental to our life’s journey. It’s important that you should focus on positive thoughts such as your happiness, motivations, and rewards. Because nothing makes you work hard in achieving your pro cheer dreams other than having an optimistic mindset.

5. Welcome discomfort as something good

Change is scary and being scared about going out of your comfort zone is normal. But you know what’s good about change? It turns us into better people after we grow from life’s challenges. So next time if you feel uncomfortable about doing something out of character, welcome the discomfort slowly.

If you feel shy about joining the auditions or dancing in front of the crowd, start by dancing in front of someone you know. Keep on increasing your audience until you’re comfortable dancing in front of more people. Then, join the auditions with your newfound confidence and rock it.

6. Believe that the impossible can be possible

If you don’t believe you can do something, it will never happen. Faith in one’s self is very important in achieving a goal. It is the foundation of passion, training, and sheer hard work. Setting foot on the moon was thought to be impossible until humanity tried.

Find a solution to every audition prep hurdle. Believe in yourself that you can achieve your pro cheer dreams even if logic says otherwise.

7. Be true to yourself

The most important mental shift of them all? Be yourself. Never ever live your life according to other people’s expectations. We live most of our lives listening to others. And most of the time, it does us no good in achieving our goals.

Nobody knows you and what’s best for you other than yourself. If you really want to be a pro cheerleader because it makes you happy, then go and be a pro cheerleader. Listen to your heart and unbiased judgment. Turn a deaf ear to your naysayers.

Mental shifts don’t happen overnight. You must remind yourself regularly about the shifts you’re about to make by staying mindful of your thoughts, words, and actions. However, there is a way you can hasten your mental shifts - firmly believe in yourself that you can change for the better.
