7 Small Self-Affirming Mindset Hacks for the Aspiring Pro Cheerleader

Making your dream pro cheer squad requires you to have a strong positive mindset. During your audition preparation, you’ll face plenty of tough challenges that you would find hard to overcome if you’re a pessimist or lack self-trust.

Common trials include breaking a workout routine or diet plan. For those who lack faith in themselves, a simple mistake could mean losing all the motivation for audition preparation which likely leads to audition failure.

But being self-affirmed isn’t easy. You need mental training and habit building to be persistent in facing challenges. Start small by using these simple tricks.

1. Compare yourself to who you were yesterday

Comparing yourself to others is mentally unhealthy. Why? Because you’re only setting unrealistic standards on yourself and it would intensify your negative self-image. Whereas if you only use yourself as your benchmark, you would be more inspired to do better because you know the extent of your abilities as a pro cheer squad aspirant.

You’ll also know what you should do to improve so you can be selected as a finalist of your dream team.

If you can’t help but compare yourself to others, at least do it in a positive way. For example, compare yourself to a current pro cheerleader and use her as an inspiration for your audition prep.

2. Put the past in the past

Dwelling on past or previous mistakes worsens your negative view of your self-worth. You must learn to move on from regret, even if the things you feel regretful about made a huge impact on your life.

I make a lot of mistakes as well. But you know what I do to prevent myself from self-loathing? I always ask myself, “Is there anything I can do about my mistakes?” If there is, I make the effort to fix them.

If not, then I leave them behind, move forward, and strive to be successful today and tomorrow. You can also do the same during your audition preparation. Don’t let your past failures drag you down or invite more, especially if you want to make it to your dream squad.

Better yet, count your wins instead of your losses.

3. Charge yourself through meditation

Start by choosing the energy to charge yourself with. An example would be the energy of success. Meditate or have a moment of silence to fill your thoughts with images of success. They can also be your past achievements or feelings of pride.

Keep on filling your thoughts until you start to feel happy or warm in your head and body. Use that warm energy for increasing your self-esteem as an aspiring pro cheerleader.

4. Be grateful all the time

Thanklessness breeds negative thoughts. It’s because you feel discontented with what you have and you’re always out to satisfy your wants. And you know that getting what you want doesn’t always make you happy.

But if you’re always thankful for everything that you have, you shower your mind with positivity which improves your focus for doing well in achieving pro cheer success.

5. Trust yourself to make the best decisions

Self-doubt can lead to failure. Sometimes it’s because it makes you not take any action out of fear. At other times, it throws you off focus from performing at your best. To start trusting yourself, you need to avoid having second thoughts especially if you already made a plan from audition prep to audition day.

6. Always start your day right

What you feel the moment you wake up until you finish your morning routine greatly affects your mindset for the entire day. Wake up with dread and your day is sure to be dreadful. But greet the sun with a smile while feeling joyful, then you’re sure to spend the day motivated and determined.

7. Watch what you say

The words you speak also influence your mindset. If you keep on using words associated with negativity during an ordinary conversation, there’s a high chance that your mind goes into a gloom mode. It’s also important to use an enthusiastic tone during a conversation instead of a lifeless one.

To achieve a self-affirmed mindset, use words and expressions like: “trust, positively, fine, believe, guaranteed, gotcha, and okay,” instead of: “uhh, hmm, eh, dunno, sorry, probably, unsure, or maybe.” And the most important piece of advice - avoid cursing. Cursing might make you sound direct but it also makes you look vulgar, hostile, and unengaging to most.

The mind is the master of the body. When it is weak and doubtful, it shows through your actions. That’s why if you want to succeed at the pro cheer auditions, you must start by fortifying your mind with affirmation.
