7 Things You Can Do Today to Build Up Your Self-Confidence for the Auditions

Self confidence...

It’s an art that a lot of women struggle to master. A lack of self-confidence prevents you from reaching your dreams in life. Like becoming part of a dance team or professional cheerleading squad. The truth is that it takes time to boost your confidence for an audition.

But by building it day by day using tiny steps, you can show up at an audition fully believing in yourself and showing the judges what you’re worth! Here are seven things you should start doing today for a confidence boost:

1. Give genuine compliments to others.

Offering compliments to people around you each day helps you practice appreciation. It enables you to see more positives in every aspect of your life. The more you give appreciation to others, the more you feel good and confident about yourself!

2. Prepare ahead of time.

When you didn’t study for an exam or rehearse your presentation, you doubt your performance. The same thing happens when you don’t prepare for a dance audition early. Early preparation gives you more time to modify or address your weaknesses. And because of that, you worry less on the big day!

3. Stop worrying about what others think.

You need to stop relying on what others think of you all the time. Maybe you’re scared to say no because you’re afraid that you won’t meet others’ expectations. Or you seek feedback from everyone - including people who don’t have your best interests in mind.

4. Sow what you want to reap.

Do what you think is necessary to make your team! By now, you already have a good idea of what you should do. Exercise, increase your flexibility, practice applying makeup, research your team, and more! Remember: What you send out comes back to you.

5. Use positive words when talking to yourself.

We talk to ourselves - oftentimes in our minds. The way you talk to yourself will either build up your confidence or destroy it. If you speak to yourself kindly, you feel great inside, and your body responds positively. I challenge you (no matter what situation you’re in) to talk to yourself the same way you would talk to a friend.

Here are positive things to say to yourself:

“I can conquer today’s audition prep routine with patience!”

“I celebrate my progress in dancing/speaking/working out NO MATTER HOW SMALL.”

“I am smart, attractive, and talented. I have every resource I need to make the team.”

6. Pretend that you are talking to just one person.

One of the things you should do to increase your confidence is to practice interacting with others. During the auditions, you will be introducing yourself to the crowd. A simple hack to become confident in that moment is to think that you’re talking to one person. Imagine that that person is someone you feel comfortable speaking to - like a friend or family member.

7. Do it afraid.

You either run from fear and miss the opportunities you deserve or you face fear. Whenever you do something that needs to be done (no matter how scared you are), that event becomes a victory. You’ll never know what the outcome is unless you try.
