7 Tips to Eat More Mindfully

You are what you eat. These are words of wisdom from people who are mindful of their diet and health choices. The way a person eats says much about herself. Take, for example, the slow and graceful cutting knife-movements of an aristocrat.

As someone who aspires to be part of an NFL or NBA dance team, you might be asking how mindful eating helps you meet your goals:

  • Eating mindfully aids in weight management.
  • It helps you realize healthy ways of dealing with your emotions rather than relying on food. Because food isn't the solution to every problem!
  • Mindful eating allows you to fully immerse yourself in the present moment. You're able to enjoy what's right in front of you.

So today, I'm sharing with you seven useful tips to eat more mindfully.

1. Grace

Never forget to give gratitude for the food on your plate. It would help to think about your role as a professional cheerleader. You build a connection with your audience and put smiles on their faces. Feeling gratitude for your food is one way to build a healthy relationship yourself and a higher being.

2. Practice Being Social

It's important to be prepared for situations where you eat mindfully even with people around - your family and future pro cheer sisters. Studies show that eating with another person makes you eat 35% more. Now, isn't that contradicting? To enjoy the company of others, set your intention. Remind yourself of what's important.

3. Small Size Win Size

While there are some events and places where you can’t eat the food that you desire to achieve a better figure, choose a smaller plate or serving. This will help you stay on the right track.

4. In the Zone

Since you are in the process of building a positive, healthy, and athletic lifestyle, you should be focused on what you must do to achieve them. Don't be distracted from your goals while you eat. Avoid behaviors such as using your mobile devices, watching television or other related media. These distractions lead you to eat more or crave for fast-food being advertised.

5. Posture

Sitting in a proper posture at the dining table encourages body awareness and a sense of control. Sit with your back straight and shoulders back. Keep your feet planted on the floor. Maintaining a good posture also shows that you have good eating manners.

6. Observe the Present Moment

This entails being more aware of what's happening RIGHT NOW. Notice the colors, shapes, and the distinct aroma of your meal. As you take a bite, pay attention to the flavor. Focus on what's inside your mouth. Give yourself enough time to savor the experience.

7. Quantity and Quality Control

If you are eating from a package, you cannot guarantee that you’ll know when to stop. If you are eating from a bag it is also important to check what your food or snack contains and what is it made of. This is the very reason why your food should be served on a plate or bowl so that you have more control over what you eat.

Final Thoughts

So there you have it, the ways on how to eat mindfully. Be conscious of your goals not just when you're working out but also while you're eating your meal. By slowing down, you actually enjoy mealtimes more and reap their benefits that support your health and fitness goals.
