8 Post Audition Self-Care Tips (Whether You Make the Team or Not)
Having a self-care routine after the auditions is as important as having one during audition prep. Many aspiring pro cheerleaders find themselves brooding or indulging in unhealthy life choices especially for those who didn’t make their dream squad.
As for those who did make the team, some become complacent in their efforts to stay fit and this often leads to them struggling to follow the squad rules. And it’s sad to say that the results are all the same.
Those who skip self-care gain weight while others get slightly depressed. Prevent these experiences from happening by using these tips.
1. Practice good hygiene
Always remember to brush your teeth 3 times a day. Wear deodorant daily after every bath. Follow a good skin and hair care routine. Good hygiene doesn’t only make you less prone to contracting illnesses, but it significantly improves how others view you and your self-image.
2. Hydrate yourself first thing in the morning
When you wake up, your body removes toxins through your urine. But since your metabolism is slower during sleep, only a small amount of toxins is being filtered out. It’s best to give your body another fresh supply of water to help flush out more toxins to avoid skin problems and low energy.
3. Control your unhealthy indulgences
Whether you made the squad or haven’t should not be a reason to discard your healthy habits. You need to keep on exercising and eating clean meals to maintain your figure. That includes limiting your procrastination, consumption of highly processed foods, and avoiding staying up late.
4. Spend less time on social media
Social media was made as a tool to connect people who live far from each other. But nowadays, it’s a breeding ground for emotional and mental discord. As much as possible, limit your time scrolling to these apps. There are more things to do that are worthy of your time such as your hobbies or hanging out with those you love and care for you.
5. Stay away from toxic people
Toxic people are those who bring nothing but misery to your life. They come in many forms and detecting one is ticky especially if you’re used to their behavior. The fix? Take time to deeply contemplate and review your self-worth. Ask yourself, “Am I getting the respect I deserve?” If not, cut ties and don’t ever look back.
6. Don’t take everything too seriously
Every human being is unique. We all have our own opinions, ideas, and attitudes. You’ll find yourself frustrated, sad, or stressed because of other people’s actions or words. Not everyone cares what you feel even if you show how affected you are.
If somebody says or does something you don’t like, learn to shrug it off. Unless they’ve hurt you directly, show that you aren’t a pushover.
7. Practice good time management
As an adult, bad time management is one of the common sources of mental, emotional, and physical stress in daily living. You must know how to prioritize your tasks and follow a good schedule. Keep a conscious effort to prevent yourself from procrastinating when there is plenty of important work needed to be done.
8. Find ways to meditate and relax
At the end of the day or on weekends where there’s nothing much left to do, find opportunities to reset your entire body. Find time to do yoga, enjoy a peaceful scenery, get a massage, or do nothing. Particularly, find ways to achieve inner peace especially when you’re about to burst due to negative emotions piling up inside you.
The best thing about following self-care routines is that you’ll find yourself more motivated and ready to succeed at the next auditions of your dream pro cheer squad. You’ll only need to exert less effort during audition prep because you’re already primed mentally, physically, and emotionally to the requirements of the judges.
