8 Tips for Treating Acne and Oily Skin

Having oily skin is genetic. Sometimes it can also be caused by an unhealthy diet and poor skin habits. The excess oil produced by your skin turns into sebum. When mixed with dead skin cells, bacteria, or other outdoor impurities, it can cause inflammation and infection. Thus, acne is born.

If you're experiencing this skin condition, know that it’s not the end of the world for you. There are plenty of remedies, strategies, routines, and products you can try. Depending on your skin profile, you can find effective fixes to make your skin beautiful, radiant, and young. Here are some of those skincare strategies.

1. Cleanse, tone, and moisturize your skin in the morning and evening

During your bedtime rest, your face accumulates dust from your room. While it’s good to always clean your bedroom, use silk beddings, and change sheets once a week, you must wash your face after getting off the bed as well. A toner will tighten your pores, helping to prevent dirt from coming in during the day.

An oil-free and water-based moisturizer will also help prevent your skin from excreting oil for moisture. Before you go to bed, cleansing your face is a must to remove the dirt from the outdoors. Following a skincare routine like this is important if you want to have healthy skin.

2. Use blotting papers

If your face is always shiny during the day, gently pat or press your skin with blotting paper during the day to absorb the excess oil. It’s important that you shouldn’t rub your skin to prevent irritation that could lead to and worsen your acne.

3. Use honey

Honey is a natural ingredient with good antibacterial and antiseptic qualities to fight germs. It’s also a humectant. Meaning it can keep your skin moisturized without leaving it feeling oily. Spread raw honey on your face and let it dry for 10 minutes. Then, wash it off thoroughly with warm water.

4. Exfoliate with almonds

Almonds when ground are good exfoliators. They also absorb the excess oils and impurities from your skin leaving it healthy and refreshed. Grind the almonds thoroughly so they won’t be abrasive during the exfoliation process. They can be mixed with honey and you can use it as a face mask. Just don’t use almonds if you have a nut allergy.

5. Keep your hair clean

Oily hair makes it easy for bacteria to attach and transfer to your skin which could worsen acne. If you have oily hair, you should wash your strands more often and keep them properly moisturized. Avoid using hair products that have gels and pomades as they can cause severe skin irritation.

6. Don’t pick or scratch pimples

You touch plenty of objects every day. May they be in public or private settings, these surfaces house bacteria. Now imagine transferring those bacteria into your face as you pop, pick, or scratch your pimples.

You’re not only exposing your skin to germs and inflammation, but you’re also leading it to severe scarring. Touching your pimples is a habit that’s hard to break but you’ll thank yourself if you can do it.

7. See a dermatologist

Nothing is better than seeking the advice of a trained professional. Before you treat your acne oily skin, make sure to visit a dermatologist for advice. They can do a proper diagnosis of your skin and identify the problems through tests.

Dermatologists can also give you recommendations of which skincare and cosmetic products to use as well as ingredients you should avoid putting on your face.

8. Eat a healthy diet

Our bodies need sugar. It’s okay to eat sweets as long as we take in enough for our needs. Too much sugar can cause insulin levels to spike which then leads to excessive oil production. As much as possible keep your sugar intake below 30 grams per day and go for healthy carbs.

Having clean and beautiful skin starts within you. Your healthy diet and sense of hygiene create a face that is adored by many and you can be proud of.
