8 Tips on How to Develop a Team Attitude
Professional cheerleading is an athletic sport. And like many sports, it is important that each team and its members should share a solid bond. One way to ensure this is to find new recruits that have a team attitude. This goes the same with aspiring pro cheerleaders. To form a solid pro cheer team, judges and coaches must find candidates that are team players.
How can you develop a team attitude? Check out these tips!
1. Trust your dream team’s decisions
Trust is the most important quality that makes a team solid. A pro cheer team is a group of individuals that share that professional quality. Every squad member trusts each other’s actions and decisions and their coach just as the coach trusts her squad.
Judges and coaches will test your trust by your ability to not question their decision from dates, time, or locations of practice and auditions.
2. Be trustworthy
Coaches and judges will also test your trustworthiness. They’ll do this by observing your punctuality on attending or delivering audition requirements. Coming late to an audition event or not passing an audition requirement could mean one thing to them - you have an attitude that could be detrimental to the squad’s performance.
3. Tell the truth
Don’t lie to the judges and coaches, especially during the interview process. You’ll eventually get caught and their trust in you will be broken. It will be considered an attitude that could potentially harm a squad’s reputation.
Be honest all the time. Tell the truth if you can’t do splits or tumbles. That’s perfectly fine. Your team will appreciate your honesty and will even help you improve your pro cheer skills.
4. Be supportive of other squad members
Pro cheer squads consider their members as family and they support each other. When one makes a major mistake, nobody blames them or thinks less of them. Instead, they help them get better. That’s the kind of attitude you should develop as well.
You can start practicing this positive team attitude by helping and sharing knowledge with other candidates on passing the auditions. Judges are also observing candidates in any way possible. One good knowledge to share is introducing them to PRO CHEER LIFE™.
You can earn points by treating other aspirants kindly or lose points for being an unhealthy competitor.
5. Be respectful and nice to others
The reason why your attitude is important in the auditions is that this shows what kind of relationship you’ll have with your teammates and coach. If you’re not polite or a team player, you’ll be getting into a lot of fights with your teammates or anybody else. And this is a big no.
6. Be adaptive while staying positive
A lot can happen in a person’s day. For pro cheerleaders, there can be a sudden change in schedules or routines. Some squad members might start having a bad day due to mood swings. Others might suddenly be absent from practice which can cause rehearsal difficulties.
Being able to rapidly adapt to these changes while staying positive is one thing the judges and coaches will love from you. This is because you have the quality to inspire your team to remain calm despite being under pressure.
7. Practice communicating effectively with confidence
Pro cheerleaders are very confident in themselves. And your ability to voice out your opinions and answer questions properly and clearly during an audition interview reflects their confidence.
An effective communicating attitude of a pro cheer candidate ensures a future of smooth interaction in the team. This eventually leads to a harmonious relationship among team members.
8. Familiarize your dream team’s mission and goals
The point of judges looking for candidates with a positive team attitude is to make it easier for coaches to manage a pro cheer squad.
It is important that you should always read your dream team’s audition info first. You’ll find it easier to follow and commit to these goals this way. You’ll also clearly show the judges your willingness in helping them achieve the team’s goals and this is a huge plus point in the audition.
To get a better view of how to develop a positive team attitude, ask alumni or current pro cheerleaders on what a typical day looks like with their squad. Being an effective communicator, supportive, punctual, and honest person are some of the most important traits of being a good team player. If you have problems in these areas, start practicing on developing these positive traits to gain the favor of judges on the audition day.
