9 Things To Give Up If You Want To Have More Energy
Energy is the source of power to get things done. As a current or aspiring pro cheerleader, you need to have lots of energy to attend squad activities and accomplish audition prep tasks while still being able to work on your career, studies, and motherly duties.
With so many luxuries nowadays, it’s difficult to stay energized especially if there are a lot of lifestyle choices that tempt us. Some of these can even affect our mental, emotional, and physical vigor.
The sad part is we don’t know what they are and when we do, it’s hard to break free from them. But don’t worry, we always find ways to live a productive and joyful pro cheerleader’s life. Here’s a list of things you should avoid and how to give up on them to stay energized and achieve your dreams.
1. Procrastination
Passing time on social media or any other form of digital media resets your mind. But if you do it often, it could lead to a sedentary lifestyle. Set a time limit to your derping around by always having a task to be done in mind.
2. Sugary foods
Foods that are high in sugar such as pastries do give you a boost. However, this energy lasts only for a short while. When that energy supply is drained, so will you. It’s best that your diet have high amounts of protein, fiber, low amounts of unsaturated fats, and carbs.
3. Negative thinking
Our brain cells spend a lot of energy to power our thought processes. But negative thinking drains our brains even more. Grudges, anger, hatred to others and yourself, you name it. These thoughts reduce our brain’s ability to reason, think, and form memories.
As much as possible, learn to forgive people who have wronged you. Forget their trespasses as well. But don’t be a pushover and always speak out your pain. This is also another way to release your negative thoughts and invite positivity in.
4. Toxic relationships
One cause of emotional drain is how the people around us treat us. Toxic partners or fake friends only give us misery and make us question our self-worth. Don’t hesitate to leave them because you deserve better. True love and friendship are mutual.
The same goes for family relationships. If your relatives treat you like trash, don’t be afraid to leave the nest. You might owe them for your life but that doesn’t give them the right to treat you poorly.
5. Smoking
I do know that most of you readers don’t smoke. Good for you ladies. But for those who do, I highly encourage that you seek medical help. Smoking doesn’t only increase your risk of having lung cancer, but on lighter levels, it can severely reduce your respiratory stamina - something that would greatly ruin your performance as an arena dancer.
6. Alcoholism
We all love a glass of our favorite poison or a girl’s night out. True, alcohol does give us some health benefits. But only if we drink occasionally and moderately. If you do suffer from alcoholism, stop and get professional help.
Alcohol ruins your sleep quality which robs your body of energy during the day. That’s why alcoholics are always tired and only feel good when they have imbibed their concoctions.
7. Sleeping late
As mentioned, sleep quality is essential to have high levels of energy. Sleeping gives our body time to recover from daily activities while saving up energy for tomorrow. Always aim to get 7 to 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep, especially every night. Lay off the gadgets or turn off the TV an hour before bed. Save your Netflix binging for another time.
8. Too much caffeine
Nothing is more energy-draining than too much caffeine combined with sugar. As I said, these foods give you high levels of mental and physical energy but only for a while. What comes after is a bad crash. Don’t rely too much on caffeine to power you up. Instead, boost your body’s metabolism and eat highly nutritious foods.
9. Overexercising
If there’s one thing that you can learn in this article, it’s that too much of something can be unhealthy. Even when exercising. Not only will you be paralyzed by muscle sores, but you’ll also be left with no strength to do other important tasks. Always stick to your workout program as recommended. Don’t push yourself by adding more sets and reps to your exercise routine. Unless you’ve reached your plateau.
Breaking free from bad life choices isn’t easy, especially once they’ve turned into habits. But if you keep a conscious effort to avoid making them, you’ll be able to live a healthier and energetic life. Just remember, everything is made of your choice.
