A Guide to Choosing the Right Shampoo for Yourself
The hair is a professional cheerleader’s crowning glory. Every cheerleader has to learn to wear her hair down and teach herself to use it as part of her body. Your hair adds drama to your choreography during auditions and game days. There’s a lot of hair flipping involved, and you want them to be perfect. Soft and full hair makes you a winner, so it’s important that you give it the care it needs. One of the best ways to do so is to use a shampoo that suits you.
If you need help in this beauty area, read this guide to get started. In here, you’ll find tips for choosing the right shampoo.
What kind of scalp do you have?
Picking the appropriate shampoo product starts with knowing the kind of scalp you have. Most women assume that shampoos are the same and therefore all shampoos match any scalp condition. Think of your scalp as the soil of your hair. If it doesn’t get the nutrients it needs, it won’t give you healthy fruits.
1. Oily Scalp
Women with greasy scalp have little luck finding the right shampoo. If you have oily scalp, maybe you’ve tried washing your hair several times a day just to get rid of excess sebum. Make sure you look for shampoos for volumizing, balancing, and strengthening. At the same time, stay away from shampoos that have added moisturizers. Clarifying shampoos are an excellent choice. Just be careful not to overdry your scalp with these products since overdrying results in more oil production.
Best shampoos to use:
• Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo
• L’oreal Paris Hair Expert Extraordinary Clay Rebalancing Shampoo
• Nexxus Hydra-Light Weightless Moisture Shampoo for Normal to Oily Hair
• Christophe Robin Purifying Shampoo with Jujube Bark Extract
• Shu Eumura Cleansing Oil Shampoo
2. Dry Scalp
Having dry and flaky scalp can be frustrating. If you are having dry scalp problems, you might be consuming high amounts of sugary and fatty foods. Other causes are hormonal imbalances and stress. Avoid shampoos that contain sulfates and with labels like strengthening and volumizing. These are best for oily scalp. Instead, pick those that contain moisturizing ingredients. Look for shampoo ingredients such as tea tree oil, menthol, almond oil, coconut oil, and olive oil. Not only will these ingredients add moisture, they also prevent further damage to your hair.
Best shampoos to use:
• Wella Elements Shampoo
• L’Oreal EverStrong Sulfate-Free Hair & Scalp System Thickening Shampoo
• Dove Shampoo for Dandruff, Dryness and Itch Relief
• Redken Dandruff Control Scalp Relief Shampoo
• Head & Shoulders Dry Scalp Care with Almond Oil
3. Normal Scalp
Got normal scalp? Lucky you, you won’t worry as much as women with oily and dry scalp. Just remember that your scalp condition may change depending on the season. When cooler months start to kick in, your scalp becomes prone to dehydration. The heat of the summer can also cause your scalp to sweat more than the usual. If this happens to you, change your shampoo accordingly. You can refer to the shampoo options above.
What if You Have Colored or Chemically Treated Hair?
Anything you do to your hair, whether it’s coloring, straightening or curling, makes it prone to damage. Styling is common among professional cheerleaders. Look for shampoos that are protein-based. You’ll want to check for ingredients such as soy, wheat, or amino acids.
I hope that this guide helps you care for your hair better! You don’t have to feel forever frustrated with whatever scalp condition you have. All hair woes can be solved, and that’s what our pieces of advice are here for.
