Here at Pro Cheer Life, we’ve been offering tips on beauty, fitness, and basically showing your best self on your BIG DAY. We hope that these tips help you feel more confident!

Today’s topic is going to be about making a first impression. It’s important that we discuss this because first impressions matter. Before you open your mouth or dance in front of the judges, they may already have initial thoughts about you. That said, your body language plays a big role in communicating what kind of candidate you are.

As someone who wants to make the team, you can use your body language to your advantage. Here’s how to nail that first impression.

1. Don’t forget to smile.

Smile! It’s the easiest thing you can do to positively impact people’s impression of you. Not just that, smiling makes you feel good about yourself since it activates reward centers in your brain. Because you feel good inside, your audition performance increases. There’s magic in your smile. Remember that. There’s a wonderful saying that goes, “Smile and the world smiles too.”

2. Arrive early.

Are you the kind of person who arrives last during occasions? If you’re going to a pro cheer audition, you want to make sure that you arrive EARLY. Not on time, but early! When you arrive early, you are showing everyone that you are serious about the auditions. It’ll also help you relax and be in a positive frame of mind.

3. Return the gaze of your audience.

Before you speak and when you speak, make contact with people who are paying attention to you. You’d probably agree that being stared at creates uncomfortable feelings and your initial reaction would be to stare away. Making eye contact during auditions increases your perceived confidence. It also shows that you’re interested in your audience. Just don’t overdo it -- take occasional breaks.

4. Start with your outfit.

Use your audition outfit to make a great first impression. You want to research the team you’re auditioning for. First of all, know the required outfit. All pro cheer teams specify this on their website’s audition page. Look at your team’s social media pages since they usually post pictures of last year’s tryouts. Get inspiration. Choose colors that match your skin and a style that flatters your figure.

5. Stand tall.

A poor posture or slouching shows that you’re nervous or lacking confidence. But guess what? Slouching also affects how you perceive yourself. Eventually, you’ll be convincing yourself that you’re not good enough. Project confidence like you own the stage. Practice this at home and notice how amazing you’ll feel.

Final Thoughts

By following these simple strategies, you’ll succeed in creating a great impression. You’ll command your audience’s attention and convince the judges that you deserve a spot on the team!
