Learning dance choreography during the first day of the auditions can be intimidating. You have to master movements fast and present the routine in front of the judges, along with other candidates. You also know that to stand out, you need to show your best.
What’s so fun about picking up a combination at a fast pace? Nothing. But don’t fret -- every woman who has made the pro cheer team of her dreams underwent the same experience. You’re not alone. Furthermore, aspiring pro cheerleaders have used strategies that helped them succeed. I’m sharing them with you in this article. Keep reading.
How to Learn Pro Cheer Audition Day Choreography Quicker
1. Focus on your own choreography, not a fellow candidate’s.
As tempting as it can be, resist the urge to look at and copy the movements of other candidates. You might just copy their mistakes! Concentrate on your own choreography while making sure that you’re doing it correctly.
2. Don’t get stuck by difficult movements.

It’s normal to feel challenged by some movements. However, don’t allow those difficult parts of ruin your entire performance. Focusing too much on these complex elements will hinder you from learning the rest of the choreography.
3. Learn movements in chunks.
You’ll find it easier to recall dance steps if you group them together. In your mind, you can create your own sequence. Look for specific “landmarks” or markers that signal you that it’s time to shift to the next chunk of movements.
4. Paint a picture in your mind.
If a dance step entails that you jump up high, you can imagine that you’re reaching for the clouds. As humans, we can remember things better if they’re visual. That said, you can recall dance steps better if you create visual representations in your mind.
5. Tell a story!
Now that you have painted a picture in your mind to remember a certain step, you can connect those steps together to make them a story. Of course, you don’t have to voice out loud these mental images you’ve created. Talk to yourself inside your head.
6. Try your best to RELAX.

You must be relaxed so that you grasp and memorize the choreography easily! Scientists point out that relaxed minds are able to learn better and form stronger and lasting memories. Feelings of worry consume a lot of energy in your body because you are battling with your own thoughts. Relax! You’ll show more confidence when you do, and deliver a superb performance.
