Becoming Your Best Cheerleader: Tips For Adopting The Right Mindset

Regardless of what you what to achieve in your career, whether it’s getting into your dream cheer team or mastering some dance moves, having the right mindset sets you up for success.

Your mind is the most powerful gift God has given you. Focus on doubts, you’ll fail. Meditate on positive thoughts, you’ll achieve so much.

The truth is that the only limit you have in life is the one you set for yourself. You might not be aware of it but oftentimes you set up walls for yourself because of your personal fears, expectations, and past experiences.

Are you being good to yourself today? If there’s one thing you should do to be the pro cheerleader you deserve to become, that is to be your own best cheerleader.

1. Create a vision board.

Visualization is a powerful technique used by individuals who want to meet their goal. They train their subconscious mind to believe that they already achieved something even before it happens.

Dedicate a special area in your room where you can see always see your vision board. Your vision board can be a simple canvas or a fabric-covered bulletin board that features cut out photos of you and your target pro cheer team. To make it more meaningful, cut out your face from your current photos and paste yours over the face of your favorite cheerleader.

Creating your vision board does not stop the time you get accepted into your dream team. Your goals evolve. Continue to paste new things on your board. Make them your source of inspiration.

2. Surround yourself with the right people.

We encounter different people everyday - our family, friends and acquaintances. These people can impact our lives either in a positive or negative way.

Today, I invite you to think about the people you’re with. Do they support you in your endeavor to pursue a pro cheerleading career? Or do they undermine your confidence and decisions?

If you’re passionate about something, it’s important that you choose the people you spend your time with. Surround yourself with those who inspire you to be better and make you feel energized.

Role model your favorite cheerleaders. Know what they did in preparation for their tryouts, their motivations, beliefs, fitness tips, and more.

3. Be mindful of your thought patterns.

Before you’re able to get limiting beliefs off your system, first you need to be fully aware of their existence. The problem with many of us is that we fill our thoughts with a lot of stuff without even examining whether they’re helpful of not. We immediately make decisions based on these thoughts and then regret the bad results.

Mindfulness allows you to understand your thoughts. You assess the quality of these ideas and decide whether or not they’re worth acting on. To be more mindful, recognize negative “triggers” that set you off. Squash poor, unrealistic thought patterns that arise by replacing them with good ones.

Tell yourself, “I am courageous because I am moving forward towards my dreams of dancing professionally for the [insert your favorite team].” or “I am a good person, and deserve the happiness I feel as I move closer to my dreams.”

4. Make gratitude a daily habit.

Notice how far you’ve come. Don’t take for granted your day-to-day accomplishments just because they seem “trivial.” For example, being able to lose one pound after 2 weeks of healthy eating and training for the tryouts may not look like a lot, but that little achievement can bring you closer to your dream of joining your cheer team.

Having an attitude of gratitude helps you realize all the goodness in your life today. Appreciation can turn simple events into major celebrations. It allows you to be more open to growth opportunities. You’ll improve your self-esteem and easily bounce back from setbacks.

To get started with adopting a gratitude mindset, create a daily list of at least 3 things you’re thankful for before you get out of bed in the morning or prior to going to sleep at night. Meditate on these blessings.

5. Be an abundance thinker.

Do you believe that there’s no limit to what you can achieve in your life or do you think of scarcity?

Abundance thinkers think big. They stop comparing themselves to the accomplishments of others. They focus on the positive sides of a bad situation.

If your struggling to convince yourself that you can make it on the day of auditions, concentrate on what you can do each day to stand out. Most importantly, never judge your current accomplishments based on the accomplishments of veteran candidates. Remember that you’re in the driver’s seat. There are a lot of choices and possibilities right in front of you.
