Focusing on Your Why to Improve Your Preparation for the Auditions

If you spend your time with successful people, one thing you’ll notice is that they all have a sense of purpose. Purpose creates value in your life. Whatever goal you want to achieve, you’ll be able to achieve if you know what it means to you. As the saying goes, start with the end in mind.

Preparing for NFL cheerleader auditions can be an extremely stressful time. Sometimes you feel that what you do isn’t enough to make you one of the chosen few. Because of that, you undermine your efforts, dismissing them as unimportant. This is why it matters to remember your WHY. It’s your starting point and foundation for success.

In this blog post, I’m sharing 3 ways focusing on your WHY helps you gear up better for the upcoming auditions.

Focusing on your WHY keeps you going.

Trying to achieve something is exciting at first. Waking up at 5:00 AM to get a workout, for example. Even if it’s your first time, you imagine all the wonderful things that could happen - losing 5 pounds, achieving clearer skin, and more.

A novice like you can experience beginner’s luck because there seems to be nothing that holds you back. But over time, you face challenges and begin to think that it’s impossible. In such situations, reconnect with your purpose. It’ll give you the courage to continue what you’ve started.

Focusing on your WHY brings joy to the process.

When you are fully aware of the reason why you do something, you feel joy. Your WHY makes the process more fun and exciting. Positive feelings don’t just help you maximize moments of preparation for the auditions; they also enable you to cope better with difficulties.

This takes us to the idea of happiness being the precursor to success and not the other way around. Yesterday, I spoke with a friend of mine who lifts weights a few days a week. She told me that just because she lifts, doesn’t imply that it needs to painful in order for her to gain results. My friend believes that she has the choice to enjoy the work while doing the work instead of complaining.

Focusing on your WHY makes saying NO easier.

Are you the kind of person who finds it hard to say no? In your preparation for the upcoming tryouts, you’ll feel tempted to give in to a lot of things that don’t align with your professional cheerleader goals. Each time you surrender to things that don’t serve you well (binging on junk, skipping workouts, overworking, late night partying, etc.) you create more roadblocks.

Get clear on your purpose once and for all. Do that and you’ll be able to set a standard for yourself. People learn to respect your choices more. You respect yourself more. Honoring that higher calling grants you a greater sense of freedom.
