Here's How to Shift Your Mindset About Fitness
Becoming fit in preparation for the pro cheer auditions is not an easy endeavor. You can find a lot of reasons for yourself to skip your schedule or procrastinate with your fitness routines and goals. What’s worse is that you can't find yourself to just get started doing the work.
Right now, I challenge you to take a closer look at the positives of fitness - what it does to you not only as an audition candidate, but also as a person.
1. Fitness for a better mind, body, and heart
Working out has a lot of positive effects on the body. It fights and prevents anxiety and depression, boosts your mood and self-confidence, and helps strengthen your body internally and externally. You perform better physically and also become a better individual.
2. All or nothing is a big NO
Postponing a workout session is nothing to be ashamed about. Everybody experiences that but keep in mind that a single absence shouldn’t be a reason for you to quit. You don't have to check all the workout dates on the calendar. Perfectionism is the enemy of progress.
3. Your current condition is perfect for a start
“I’m too weak or fat to perform those routines.” The point is that you're on this fitness journey to improve. Everybody starts differently. Realize that you're more than enough and you're doing an amazing job by just showing up.
4. Weight loss isn’t the only indication of your efforts
It’s so common to hear people whining about “Oh no, I didn’t lose enough weight”. What if I told you that fitness isn’t just all about losing weight? Being able to complete a set of exercises that are more intense than your previous routine is a sign of progress. Being able to resist fast food and beer also means progress.
5. It’s about the simple work, not the entire process
Don’t stress too much over all the steps required to be fit. Think about the little things you can do to achieve fitness. If you overwhelm yourself with thoughts of everything that needs to be done, you'd feel defeated even before you've started. Here's what to do instead: Ask yourself about what can you do right.
6. Having a workout companion for motivation is good but to be able motivate yourself is even better
We tend to find inspiration and motivation from others and YES, it does help. But what if they’re not around? Who's going to inspire and motivate you now? Learn to motivate your own self. That is the best way to ensure that you keep going on with or without help.
7. Use fitness to increase your self-confidence
One huge motivation for working on your fitness is that it boosts your self-confidence from the inside out. Do you want to increase your muscle tone? Loss that belly fat? Enhance your body's flexibility? Recognize what you should improve on and don't stop until you achieve the desired results.
8.Fitness is for you and for those you care about who also care for you
Did people laugh at you when you said you wanted to be a professional cheerleader? Well, don’t mind them. Their opinion doesn’t matter. Do you know what matters? You being beautiful and fit. You being healthy so you can be there for your loved ones. You being able to make those who love you proud by achieving your dream.
Quit complaining and finding excuses to not workout. They will only keep you from realizing your dream. Anyone can get in GREAT SHAPE for the auditions. That includes you. Overcome those fears and hesitations with your long-term goal of making the team!
