How Can You Make Fitness A Sustainable Part Of Your Routine?
Making fitness a natural part of your life is easier said than done. This is because of the habits that we’ve adopted for so long - habits that make it difficult to break out of our comfort zones. But I’ve learned a secret: You can make fitness stick in a sustainable way by finding out what works for you. Keep reading, aspiring pro cheerleader.
1. Start somewhere - but be realistic.
Before you get to level 10, you need to start with 1, right? It’s easy to get carried away by “shiny objects” and feel dissatisfied with your current progress.
Begin with easy workout moves. Nail their proper form. Schedule it on your calendar to exercise for 30 minutes on specific days of the week. That could be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Your routine needs to be something you can keep up with.
2. Make a mental commitment.
If you’ve been inconsistent with your fitness, it could mean one thing: You’ve got some mental hurdles. Maybe your mind isn’t always in the game. Having the right mindset enables you to maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle.
One powerful piece of advice I offer to my clients is to recite a positive affirmation. “Everyday I am becoming stronger.” “I have the willpower to crush this simple workout.” “I am transforming my body into what I have always wanted.”

3. Build your own routine.
After all, fitness should be developed around one’s goals, capabilities, and availability. Don’t just show up and randomly do an exercise that comes to your mind. If you do that, you’re likely to quit in the middle of your workout.
The first step to creating a custom routine is to identify your goals. Do you want to burn more fat? Build muscle? Improve flexibility? Increase coordination? Whatever your top goals are, write them down. Then research the best workouts that meet those goals.
Second, figure out how much time you’re able and willing to commit to working out. If you can do an hour a day, that’s awesome! But if you’ve got a full-time job and kids, then perhaps 30 minutes for 3 days a week will do.
Distribute the exercise moves you’ve researched throughout your schedule. Make sure that you’re targeting multiple muscles for a full-body routine.

4. Discover which supplements support your training.
Pre- and post-workout supplements help provide energy, boost your fat-burning potential, and aid in muscle recovery. Choosing the right ones depending on your goals can make a big difference.
For example, fish oil is known for reducing muscle soreness and improving muscle health - especially while we’re aging. Meanwhile, collagen is beneficial for enhancing bone health, boosting muscle mass, and promoting cardiovascular health.
5. Expect a few setbacks.
Whether it’s an injury, sickness, or some sort of an emergency - setbacks happen in your fitness journey. Even the most dedicated aspiring pro cheerleaders experience the worst scenarios. Keep in mind that setbacks are temporary. And when they occur, focus on what you can do at the present moment.
For instance, let’s say you’ve been super preoccupied with work that you’re left with only 10 minutes of exercise time. Ask yourself, “What can I do with these 10 minutes?” You could perform some jumping jacks and burpees, ride a bike, or do a jumping rope exercise.
Final Thoughts
Here’s a final note I would like to leave you: Be patient with your fitness. Do not take every tiny progress you make for granted. There are many people who are not physically able - but here you are, working your way towards becoming a professional cheerleader! Take basic steps towards making your fitness more sustainable. I hope the strategies I shared today help!
