How Pro Cheerleaders Can Live A More Manageable Life

We have to admit that as professional cheerleaders, we're not the most relaxed people on the planet. On top of pro cheer, we also deal with our day jobs or academics and have responsibilities at home. It's easy to get stressed. And while stress helps us push ourselves and realize our capabilities, too much of it can make us unhappy and sick.

Today, I'm inviting you to read these tips that will teach you how you can make life more manageable.

1. Avoid day wasters.

Take a step back to identify the ways you're wasting time. You may think that you're using time wisely but the truth is, there are small things that kill your productivity. One is constantly checking social media. The second is switching from one task to another -- it drains your mental energy. The third is being a perfectionist in everything -- you don't finish a task until it's perfect.

2. Keep it strictly downtime.

Most of us relax physically but allow our brains to think about work. We also randomly check out emails. Set rules whenever you're having the time off. Don't meander off to other things that prevent you from recovering completely. You want to come back refreshed tomorrow.

3. Be less accessible.

Unless it's about pro cheer, limit the ways that other people can reach you. If you're available on almost all social media platforms, it can be hard for you to focus. A friend of mine has her Twitter, Facebook, Quora LinkedIn, Slack, and Whatsapp on every day. As you already know, responding to social media notifications is addicting.

4. Get them out of your head by writing them down.

Are you allowing the things you need to do today and tomorrow accumulate in your head? It can get overwhelming. Here's a useful piece of advice: Do a brain dump. Write a list of all your to-dos so that you can approach them and deal with them one at a time. This is also an effective way to declutter your mind and free up mental space. That way, you can really focus on a task. You'll be able to get it done right away.

5. Ask for help.

You don't have to get everything done yourself. If you have kids at home and have a lot of chores to do, look to a family member or your partner to help with a task. If you run a business and have the funds, consider outsourcing repetitive work. Asking for help is also helping yourself.

Being able to make life manageable through these basic tips is liberating. Remember to avoid time wasters, respect your downtime, be less accessible, make a list of all your to-do's, and ask for help. Let's make the most out of today.
