Team Info

The Denver Nuggets Dance Team, also called the Nuggets Dancers, are the official dance squad for the Denver Nuggets basketball team. As one of the best dance teams in the NBA, they perform for over 19,000 fans at home games and other events throughout the year, participate in community events and causes, appear on national television, join photo shoots, and enjoy several benefits from sponsors (gym memberships, styling, yoga, and more). In 2016, the team had 16 members.

2017 Tryouts

Requirements for all candidates:

  • Should be at least 18 years old by October 1, 2017. If you are 17 years old, have a guardian present a waiver on your behalf. 
  • If hired, you should live in the Denver area and have reliable transportation to all Nuggets Dancers activities.
  • Be ready to commit up to 10 hours per week in the pre-season and 20 hours per week in the regular season. Be available for all game nights (any day of the week) and evening practices. 

Take note that all current team members need to re-audition every season. The final 2017-2018 Nuggets Dance Team will consist of 18-20 members. 

What you need to bring to the auditions: 

  • Resume 
  • Headshot (8” x 10”)
  • Be prepared to stay the entire day. Bring water and snacks. Remember that candidates are not allowed to leave the area once the auditions start. 

AUDITION PROCESS:

1. Preliminary Auditions (Friday, July 15)

You will be taught choreography and perform it in front of the judges. Cuts will be made. 

2. Semi-Final Auditions (Sunday, July 17)

Be prepared to present four 8-counts of your own choreography. Candidates will perform back to back to a continuous track which will be provided on July 16. A small group interview will be conducted. You will also be performing the routine you learned in the preliminary round in a group of 3-4 in front of the judges. Names of the finalists will be announced at the end of this round. 

3. Finalists’ Training Camp (Tuesday, July 20 – Friday, July 22)

In the training camp, you will be having two dance rehearsals, a photo shoot, a public appearance, and an individual interview. More details about the camp will be available on the first day of auditions. 

4. Dance Rehearsals (Tuesday, July 19 & Thursday, July 21)

You will learn additional routines. Make sure you have a clean performance during the final dance audition.

5.  Individual Photo Shoot (Wednesday, July 20)

Finalists will wear the Nuggets Dancers uniform and an all-white attire of their choosing. The time for the photo shoot will be between 7 PM - 10 PM. You are to bring your personal all-white outfit, pantyhose, and other articles except for the Nuggets uniform and boots which will be provided to you.

6.  Individual Interviews (Thursday, July 20-21)

You will attend an individual interview with a panel of judges on July 20 or 21. Time will be from 8:30am and 3pm. Venue is at Pepsi Center. 

7. Public Appearance (Friday, July 22)

Here, your ability to interact with fans will be evaluated. Finalists will be presenting a dance performance. 

8. Choreography Showcase / Final Dance Audition (Saturday, July 23)

Each finalist will present her own 45-60 second piece (with her music of choice) of choreography in front of the judges. For the final dance audition, dancers will perform the material they learned during the training camp.

  • Dance ability
  • Personality
  • Poise
  • Enthusiasm 

How Can You Prepare For The Nuggets Dancers Cheer Tryouts?

The Nuggets Dancers will be holding audition prep classes and workshops soon to help you prepare for the upcoming 2017 tryouts. Dates will be announced soon. Audition prep classes will cover a brief technique, dance combo, and a Q&A session about the tryouts while the audition workshops will cover full-length routines,  hair and makeup techniques, suggestions for the audition attire, and more.
