How to Bring Positive Energy into Your Audition Prep

Back when I trained for pro cheer auditions, I learned a very important lesson: That I can enjoy the preparation process and stay less stressed if I will it. Yes, cultivating positivity isn't always easy, but it has the power to move you closer to your goals.

The question is, how do you create, use, and project positive energy in your audition prep journey? Here are five things you can do starting today.

How to Bring Positive Energy into Your Audition Prep

1. Take breaks when things get overwhelming.

Sometimes, you feel like exploding. Because while working on yourself for the auditions, you're also facing other tight deadlines and demands in your personal life. Overwhelm is a positivity killer. Give your mind and body a break. It could mean doing a light workout (instead of a tough one) or just taking a nap.

2. Give your energy to the solution instead of the problem.

The more time and energy you give to the problem, the more it persists. Don't say, "I'm too sick to attend today's dance class." Instead, say,"I will get better soon and when I am better, I'm going to show up at the studio and do my best.

3. Practice good posture.

A simple hack to creating more positive energy is to improve your posture. Your posture has a direct connection with your mind. When your chin is up and your shoulders are back, you feel confident and ready to conquer the day!

4. Take good care of your soul!

We often talk about physical activity, beauty, health, and dance technique. But do you consider your spiritual needs? Immerse yourself in positive messages by reading inspirational books and listening to positive talks (or podcasts). Express your feelings through journaling. Practice living in the present moment!

5. Don't give away your personal power.

Be in control. You give away your personal power by complaining about things that go wrong in your audition prep or relying on the opinions of others for your self-worth. Resist the temptation to think unproductive thoughts. Embrace your values and don't be led astray!
