How to Dance with More Energy and Ease
As a future professional cheerleader, you need to learn how to engage your audience - fans of your sports team. One of the ways to do that is to dance energetically in a way that looks very natural. If you’re currently practicing your dancing, whether that’s Jazz, Hip-Hop, or another style, here are my top five tips for you. Use these tips in your practice before the auditions and I guarantee you that you’ll perform the way you should on the big day.
Tip #1: Make sure to get sufficient rest and sleep.
This piece of advice might unimportant, but believe me, recovery is extremely essential for your body to cope with all the physical and mental stress it has been dealing with. A lack of quality rest and sleep will take a toll on your practice. Have at least 7 sleep at night. Recharge by taking breaks.
Tip #2: Stretch for better flexibility.
Incorporating some stretching exercises into your daily schedule will reduce muscle tightness and improve your range of motion. That way, you can dance bigger and wider. At the same time, you won’t feel any pain. Stretch your quads, hamstrings, upper back, biceps, triceps, and shoulders - basically your whole body!
Tip #3: Improve your body’s balance.
You already have an idea of what balance is. It’s your ability to maintain your center of gravity while minimizing sway. Great dancers have a good sense of balance. Their dancing looks stronger and more controlled. Here are 4 ways to work on your balance: (1) Do unilateral exercises (2) Incorporate yoga into your routine (3) Use an exercise ball to work your core muscles (4) Practice dancing with your eyes closed in a safe place such as your room.
Tip #4: Learn from others.
Instead of comparing yourself to great dancers, learn from them. When you’re not dancing, research top dance influencers you can follow and try to observe their strengths and weaknesses. Analyze their techniques in an objective manner so that you can add them to your practice.
Tip #5: Eat foods for better energy.
Another natural way to dance with more energy is to nourish your body with the right foods! Foods that boost your energy are those that are natural, contain less sugar and carbohydrates, and are full of vitamins and minerals. Examples are above-ground vegetables (leafy greens), eggs, avocados, coconut oil, olive oil, nuts and seeds, and fatty cuts of meat.
Being able to dance with more energy and ease takes practice and a little tweak here and there. Successful performers and those who make their dream pro cheer team have used these strategies (and more). Last but not least, make a commitment to improving yourself every single day. I hope today’s article inspired you!
