How to Get Rid of Acne Scars Naturally and With Makeup

One of the biggest misconceptions known is that our acne goes away once we’re over our teenage years. It still is a persistent problem for many adults. The worst part of it is that the scars caused by acne can lead to poor self-image.

For aspiring cheerleaders like yourself, acne scars can affect your performance or the way you carry yourself during the auditions. But don’t fret. Whether it’s through natural remedies or cosmetics, I’ve got them. Just read on to find out what my secrets are.

5 Natural Tips to Deal with Acne Scars

1. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera reduces the scar tissue size and the skin inflammation caused by acne. You can buy factory-made aloe vera gels from drugstores but it’s better to grow two or three pots in your home.

2. Sebo de Macho

I asked my Filipina friends sometime in the past why their acne scars are almost nonexistent after they’re popped. They recommended Sebo de Macho by Apollo. It’s made from mutton tallow and also contains vitamin A, linoleic acid, collagen, and elastin.

Just be careful when using this remedy as your skin may have an allergic reaction to a Southeast Asian product. Do a patch test before applying. Get the product here.

3. Gently massage your acne scars

Blood flow is necessary for scar tissues to heal faster. When you apply aloe vera gel or Sebo de macho on your acne scars, you must massage the area gently.

4. Use a citrus soap

Citrus products repair, rejuvenate, and heal the skin by promoting collagen production and antibacterial support. Buy citrus soap and wash your face with it after your bath. You can use lemon juice as a facial cleanser but be careful not to let it get into your eyes.

5. Go easy on your sweets

When you have a high blood sugar level, your wounds tend to heal slower just as diabetics do. Not to mention that eating too many sweets also increases your chances of developing acne. So think twice before you’re about to indulge in a jar of ice cream or a plate full of pastries.

5 Ways to Cover Acne Scars with Makeup

1. Freshen up your skin

Clean thoroughly and moisturize your skin well. You can use the citrus soap mentioned earlier to remove all dirt and bacteria from your face.

2. Apply your primer

Using your clean fingers, apply your primer all over your face to ensure your makeup sticks well for a long time. Let it sit for a few minutes after.

3. Apply your concealer

Wash your hands again and use your fingers to mark the acne scars with an “X”. You can also use a q-tip to avoid cross-contamination. Then, gently pat the concealer into each of your blemishes. Don’t rub the concealer for it will result in streaky patterns.

4. Soak up any excess makeup

If you’re done with applying the concealer and other layers of your makeup, use a tissue to absorb any excess cosmetics. Like applying the concealer, press the tissue lightly so you’ll have a natural finished look.

5. Use a finishing spray

Lastly, use a setting mist to avoid your makeup from being cakey. I highly recommend using a finishing spray that has an SPF 50. This will protect your skin from the sun when you’re out dancing or going to a destination.

The best way to get rid of acne scars is to prevent them from developing in the first place. Do that by keeping your face clean and free of germs. Wash your face thoroughly upon waking up, before and after wearing makeup, and before going to bed.
