How To Train Your Brain To Become More Positive

Having a trained and physically fit body is important for current and aspiring pro cheerleaders. You need to look healthy for the auditions and perform dances at your best during home games. However, there is one other aspect that is equally as important but often taken for granted - a positive mind.

A study shows that a mind that thinks optimistically leads to a stronger immune system. With that, you’re less prone to missing audition prep tasks and squad activities due to sickness.

That means you're less likely to miss out on anything and remain an efficient performer. What should you do to think more positively, you ask? Read on to find out.

1. Identify your areas of negativity

When we get used to complaining about specific things, it becomes natural to us that we don’t find the bleakness in it. You must ask a friend, colleague, or relative to honestly point out areas in your life you feel gloomy about. This makes you conscious about things you’re negative about so that you’ll be able to change your default reaction into a positive one.

2. Open yourself up to humor

Even dire moments can be a source of comedy if you strive to find the light in them. A good example would be finding yourself to be eating something that breaks your diet plan. Instead of beating yourself for it, just say, “I guess my cheat meal comes early!” then laugh about it.

3. Help others

It’s good to return the favor to someone who’s done you good. But it’s better to help somebody else who doesn’t owe you a thing. The magic about paying it forward is that you truly feel good about yourself because you know you’ve contributed to making the world a better place. You can start anytime and in any way such as donating to charity in terms of money or possessions.

4. Emphasize self-care

Envy is common and normal. Although most of us don’t want to admit being envious of others’ wealth, social status, or appearance. And we hate ourselves for not being like them or being better than them. The fix? Use that envy as an inspiration to be a better you or focus on caring for yourself. Most people are too busy themselves to care about you. Do the same.

5. Make time for your passions

Being a responsible adult by fulfilling your role in society can make you question your life’s purpose. That shouldn’t be the case. You must make sure that you’re still able to do your hobbies, play your favorite sports, or spend time with the people you hold dear. Think of it as if your adult responsibilities are just side-jobs while your main career is the pursuit of your happiness.

6. Release your inner negativity

The difference between men and women is that most men manage their negativity by keeping it to themselves until they forget about it. In the case of women, most of us need an outlet for our troubles. A few examples would be making a habit of talking to a friend, therapist, stuffed animal, visiting a farm, or pumping iron. The last tip is my favorite because I get to stay fit.

7. Put a “But” after every negativity

Always add a “but” and something positive after your complaining. For example, say, “I hate my restrictive diet, but it’s for the best because I have more control over my life and I already lost a lot of extra pounds.”

8. Start your day without any negative manifestations

I’m guilty of checking my phone before I get out of bed every morning. While this makes me more prone to starting my day negative because of the bad things I find on social media, I always make a conscious effort to scrub everything off.

Then I proceed to express my gratitude for another chance at living through my prayers. With practice, you can do the same as well.

9. Believe that happiness is your choice

There are a lot of things that we cannot control in our lives. But the best thing that we have control over is the choice to feel happy. It’s a gift that you shouldn’t take for granted. So the next time that you’re about to drown yourself in sorrow, think to yourself, “Is this something worthy of wasting my brain cells and time over?”

Being an optimistic woman is a choice. You must teach yourself not to be easily fazed by the negativity you encounter. You should also focus on yourself, find light in every dread, and avoid bottling up your stresses.
