How to Transform Your Weaknesses Into Strengths

You’re pretty confident as the audition day approaches. Why? Because you’ve polished the things you’re already good at. But I’m here to tell you that’s not enough. There are still some aspects of you that haven’t worked on yet. Remember that judges will prefer well-rounded candidates over one who mastered one skill. But don’t worry, it’s not too late yet. Here are some tips on how to polish your flaws into ideal attributes!

1. Don’t hide your weaknesses

Don’t be scared to talk about your flaws. Once you openly talk about how your dancing needs improvement, others will help you with advice on where to learn some moves. They might even teach you some themselves!

2. Let others find and criticize your flaws

Don’t shy away from criticisms. Accept them positively. This makes you recognize the weaknesses you haven’t seen yet and gives you the initiative to work on them. If someone says you’re bad at applying makeup. They’re probably right, so work on that.

3. Turn your pro-cheer weakness into your to-do list

Once you identify your flaws, list them all down as areas you need to improve on. Strategize on individual processes. If you’re shy to crowds, start by talking one on one with a stranger of the same gender. Then hang out with a bigger group.

4. Take baby steps as you practice on their improvements

What’s important for turning weaknesses into strengths is to take them slowly. Don’t cut the process short and don’t strive for perfection. If you’re struggling to follow your workout regime, take it slowly. Workout one body area today then another on the next. Once you’re adept at one step, take it to the next level.

5. Don’t be irresponsible

Stay focused on improving your weaknesses. Stick to the regime you set. Once you allow yourself to get distracted, all your hard work and planning will be wasted. Remind yourself constantly to stay focused on doing improvements. Use your journal as a planner if you want. Work yourself hard to be the ideal candidate that makes the team.

6. Compare your previous improvements to the latest ones

Record your progress and compare the results from the start of your training to your present situation. For example, if you overcame stuttering while speaking before and see yourself not being nervous anymore, wouldn’t that make you feel good?

7. Overwhelm your weaknesses with your strengths

A list of your weaknesses can be discouraging. To fight this negativity, list down all your strengths. Notice how much you’re good at other things and how they outnumber the things you’re not good at. If you’re able to master a lot of things, what’s stopping you from adding more to that list? Inspire yourself with that kind of mentality.

8. Team up with others who have your weaknesses as strength

As you prepare for the auditions, you might meet other pro cheer candidates. Some of them have your weaknesses as their strengths and they might also have your strengths as their weaknesses. Foster friendships and trade some secrets. You can learn better from kindred spirits.

9. Be positive and stay confident

Your mindset is your primary driving force on transforming flaws into masteries. If you foster negative thinking, you’ll never take the first step. Don’t think that you can't turn your weaknesses into strengths. Think that you can only try to do your best. Always tell yourself nothing can go wrong and if you lose, it’s not your fault as you did what you could.

10. Work on your weaknesses instead of just being contented with your strengths

Your strengths are God-given, it’s not good if you solely focus on polishing them. No matter how adept you are at dancing, the audition judges will still look for candidates with well-rounded attributes. As you recognize your flaws, improve them as well.

You can effectively improve on your weaknesses if you approach them positively and with confidence. It all starts by being able to recognize them. After that, plan some strategies for working on them. Be consistent with your strategies until you reach mastery. When the audition day arrives, I guarantee you’ll be more than ready to conquer it!
