Post-Audition Advice: How to Bounce Back After Disappointment

Right now, I know that most candidates are done auditioning for an NFL pro cheer team. NBA dance auditions are still coming up. What I want to share with you in this blog post is so important, and I need you to remember it not just today, but also for a future audition or any situation in life...

It's about recovering from disappointment.

There's nothing fun about not making the team. You've set pro cheer audition goals, researched all that you possibly could about your dream team, exercised each day, read pro cheer audition books, worked on your flexibility, and attended audition prep classes. But here you are, trying to come to terms with defeat.

I'm here to tell you that nobody ever achieved success without experiencing failure. Failure is important, and it doesn't matter how many times you fail, but how you bounce back from it.

Here are my tips that will encourage and help you recover:

Don't allow yourself to feel hurt for too long.

On the journey to healing yourself, it's important to let yourself feel all the unhappiness. When you treat sadness as an enemy by ignoring or trying to numb it, you're only adding insult to the injury.

However, it's also crucial that you don't allow yourself to live in sadness for too long because it's not healthy for you. Pick yourself up. Help yourself feel better!

Be grateful for the experience.

The subject of gratitude isn't new to you and me. The problem is, we don't integrate it into our lives. Practicing gratitude helps you perceive things positively. It removes all-or-nothing thinking. It makes you feel peaceful no matter what you've gone through.

Be grateful that you were able to audition because not every woman who dreams to become a professional cheerleader gets the chance to audition. It's a rare opportunity and something worth treasuring and learning from.

Don't stop dreaming BIG!

Just because you didn't make the team this time, doesn't mean you don't deserve to chase big dreams. If there's anything that you and I must have in life, that is a sense of purpose. Dreams give us direction. They help you create new beliefs while getting rid of old limiting beliefs.

Candidates who never give up on their dream to one day cheer for the pros have a higher chance of achieving that dream. Why? Because they keep on improving and evolving for that goal. But don't get me wrong. Dreaming big can also mean looking beyond professional cheerleading if you think you need to change your life's direction.

Seek growth.

Try to understand how you can do better next time. Do yourself a favor by adopting the curiosity of a child. A child never stops asking questions and diving beneath the surface. As Albert Einstein once said, "I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious." Curiosity is what makes you better at something because your brain enters a state where it is highly engaged.

I hope that my tips truly help you overcome disappointment and find the positive. Remember: Failures can help you succeed because it leads to self-discovery, gratitude, and learning.
