Powerful Ways To Build Your Self-Esteem

If there is one thing you need to develop as you journey to become a professional cheerleader, that is your self-esteem. Self-esteem refers to the feelings and beliefs you have for yourself. It affects your outlook on life and can be the difference between failing and succeeding.

If you think you are valuable and worthy of being part of your cheer team, you will train harder in pursuit of your dreams. This increases your chances of realizing your goals. Your hard work will pay off. The opposite is also true.

Today, we are going to talk about the ways for you to have an unshakeable belief in yourself so that you can feel more empowered, confident, and be your best self this upcoming auditions. Let’s get started.

Identify negative thoughts or triggers.

The number one thing that can sabotage your self-esteem is your critical inner voice. You are your worst enemy. Whenever you try something new and challenging, first you’re overwhelmed with high hopes. It won’t be long until doubt sets in. Worrying about your capabilities is normal at the beginning. However, you need to realize that self-doubt can lead to unproductive behavior.

Recognize where this inner critic comes from. Did it originate from a previous negative experience? Have you auditioned for your cheer team in the past and but did not make it? Do other people’s opinions affect you? Realize that all these negative things are no longer your reality. Put yourself in the best circumstance by feeding your mind with positive affirmations.

Make an inventory of your accomplishments.

Can you identify the little accomplishments you make each day? Whether it’s waking up early to do some cardio workout or practicing self-control in your food choices, tiny successes need to be celebrated. It’s easy to lose track of how far you’ve come if you don’t make an inventory of your progress. If you only make an effort to record your daily success behaviors, you’ll be able to appreciate yourself more.

Start tracking your progress by writing down 5 to 10 things you did each day that would bring you closer to your dream cheer team. You can even go further to writing down how you feel after every workout or saying no to an unhealthy treat. Anything that will help boost your confidence is worth writing down.

Create daily challenges.

If this is your first time to join the pro cheerleading auditions, congratulate yourself for making this life changing decision. Remember that not every woman who dreams of becoming a professional cheerleader has the courage to sign-up. Now that you are a candidate, the next thing you need to do is to push harder. You will never know what you’re capable of unless you challenge yourself.

Set daily milestones for you to accomplish. These day to day challenges can keep you focused on your bigger goal by giving you a reason to improve yourself. If you have some fears which you think will interfere with your performance on the big day, tackle them now. Be in charge of your situation.

Don’t envy, emulate.

Oftentimes we fall into the comparison trap. Each time you compare yourself with others, you are degrading your own accomplishments. The reason why you are insecure of others’ successes is that you want to experience them too.

Realize that comparisons are always unfair. It's always a losing battle. Instead of allowing yourself to feel inadequate, seek inspiration by figuring out how successful professional cheerleaders have arrived at where they are now. Here’s a motivational quote by Tim Fargo: “Don't envy what people have, emulate what they did to have it.”

Don’t beat yourself up if things don’t go as planned.

Even the most successful people you know make mistakes. If you planned to show up at a dance class or do yoga but failed, or if you haven’t reached your target weight, don’t hate yourself for it. It’s alright to feel bad about something that really matters to you. Try your best to move on. Consider your mistake a learning experience. Before you start beating yourself up, think about how a dear friend would cheer you up in the same situation. Then do it.

You have the choice to grow from your mistakes. Each moment is a blank slate that represents a brand-new chance for you to progress towards your pro cheerleader goals.
