Pro Cheer Audition Advice: How to Use Fear to Your Advantage

Do you fear the audition process? Are you anxious of the unknown? I'm here to tell you that you're not alone. A lot of successful professional cheerleaders used to be in your shoes - myself included. But they stood out and made their dream team because they refused to let fear cripple them. The fact is, you can use fear to your advantage. Let it get you moving so you reach your goals. I'm going to show you six ways to utilize it in today's article!

1. Use fear to perform a reality check.

The first step to overcome fear is to recognize its existence. Now that you've acknowledged that you're afraid, it's time to figure out WHY. Is it because you lack dance experience? Your loved ones weren't so supportive of your dream? Or your schedule is packed you can't even find time to workout? When you face the truth, you can deal with it accordingly.

2. Ask yourself what it will cost you.

"What if I don't make the team?" "What will my friends and family say about me?" "What if I'm not as good as other candidates?" Instead of asking these self-defeating questions, you should ask, "If I let fear rule my life, what will it cost me?" Try to visualize yourself in your old age. Will you wish you had tried harder?

3. Refuse to do it alone.

The reality is, there are many aspects in pro cheer prep that compel you to seek expert advice or guidance. If you struggle in one area, for example, dancing, sign up for local dance classes. Or if you are completely clueless on getting started, find a pro cheer audition prep guide that has the answers you need. 4. Just take action.

Go after what you want without hesitation. Sometimes the best strategy to beat fear is to simply act. The more you sit down and do nothing, the more terrified you become. Action eliminates the unknown. Rather than spending time thinking and talking about your fears, take the necessary steps. When you take action, you'll realize that things are not as bad as they seem!

5. Identify lessons.

Fear can teach you the most valuable lessons in life. In my experience, fear has helped me fully understand the importance of being prepared. I auditioned not once, but multiple times, and one of the reasons was that I lacked preparation. Fear also let me realize that I should be my number one fan instead of my worst enemy!

6. Remember that small steps count.

We all know that becoming a professional cheerleader is a big dream. Because it is, it can make the journey overwhelming. But the reality about any goal is that it isn't accomplished in one day! The key is to take one small step at a time, with consistency. Devote one hour of your day to workout. Sign-up for a free cardio workout class. Commit to watching videos of your dream team 10 minutes a day so you can get a feel of their routine!
