Pro Cheer Beauty: Try This Nighttime Skincare Routine
Aspiring or seasoned pro cheerleaders, you’ll surely benefit from this one.
Admit it. After a tiring practice, gym class or performance, the one thing you look forward to the most is hitting the sack. We’ve all been there, but while you want to play sleeping beauty as soon as you get home, you might want to give that a second thought.
Nighttime skincare routine is often the most overlooked beauty regimen, but it’s important to keep one.
Your skin is exposed to harmful elements during the day such as pollution, UV rays, sweat, dirt and even the makeup that you put. This makes you at risk of rapid skin aging and other skin issues.
At night, while you sleep, your body repairs itself and your skin undergoes regeneration. Remember beauty sleep? This is the reason behind it. When you’re stressed and not leading a healthy lifestyle, it easily shows on your skin. That being said, this makes it essential for you to have a nighttime skincare routine.
There is no one-size-fits-all routine because it will still largely depend on your skin type. But here are the basics that you can do starting today:
Cleanse
Find a gentle makeup remover and remove everything that accumulated on your face during the day, be it makeup from a performance, sweat from all your hard work at the gym or the dust from being outdoors. Cleanse your face even if you didn’t wear makeup nor break a sweat because the skin produces oil and if you don’t wash, oil can clog your pores and make breakouts appear.
Wash
Even after using a makeup remover, be sure to wash your face. Don’t make it any longer than a minute and apply the facial foam in gentle circular movements. Use a foam or cream facial cleanser that can remove harmful elements on your face without irritating it. Foaming cleansers are great for oily and acne-prone skin and the cream ones are for dry and sensitive skin.
Contrary to the “wash with hot water and rinse with cold water”, lukewarm water is most recommended. Cold water can’t effectively remove the oil on your face and hot water can dry your skin. The right temperature reduces the chances of skin irritation.
Exfoliate
Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells that may clog your pores. Some facial cleansers have small beads that can help you with this. You can also try masks or use an exfoliating brush along with your cleanser. Exfoliate 2-3 times a week. Overdoing it may cause irritation.
Use a toner
You can still further cleanse your face with a toner. It hydrates your skin and also helps reduce visible pores. If you’re concerned about it being harsh on your skin, find a water-based product, but if you want to minimize oil production and pores, an astringent is the way to go.
Apply a serum
Serums target specific skin issues, and they’re great at nourishing your skin. It boosts hydration and can provide vitamins and nutrients to brighten your skin.
Moisturize
Moisturizers act as an extra layer of protection and hydration on your skin. Like the fear of toner making our skin dry, there’s a lot of fear surrounding moisturizers and making our skin oily. It’s safe to use even for oily skin because the lack of moisture may also lead to increased oil production. If your skin is sensitive, use unscented ones.
As an extra, use a facial mask
There are different kinds of facial masks available for your skin type and needs. You can buy or make your own from recipes online. This gives your skin an extra boost.
With all these tips, don’t forget to also drink water before snoozing off so you’re hydrated inside and out. It will also help to get at least 8 hours of sleep.
Be ready to face a new morning with glowing skin!
