7 Things Women With Great Skin Always Do

It's every woman's dream to achieve great skin and not have to constantly cover up imperfections with makeup. Did you know that your routine or daily habits can help or damage you skin? It's not just about picking the right products. Your lifestyle matters too.

Whether you're still preparing for a dance audition or are already a professional dance team member, it's always helpful to arm yourself with skin care knowledge. With that being said, here are 7 things you should do to get healthy, good-looking skin.

1. Hydrate after cleansing your skin.

One of the best times to apply a moisturizer is right after you wash your face. Pat your face with a clean towel. Damp face helps seal in moisture. Apply moisturizer in the morning before heading out for the day, and at night before you go to bed.

2. Love your SPF.

Not everyone does it, but sun protection plays a big role in keeping your skin beautiful. Ultraviolet light from the sun damages the fibers in your skin, causing all sorts of problems like fine lines, wrinkles, freckles, and discoloration.

3. Don't binge on junk food.

There is a strong relationship between your nutrition and your skin. Food influences your hormones, and hormones can affect the development of acne. Simple sugars found in junk foods create the perfect condition for acne. Sugar raises your insulin hormone, and an increase in insulin boosts sebum production.

4. Clean your phone daily.

Bacteria can transfer from surfaces to your phone. Your phone is a breeding ground for germs. Make sure that it's clean before coming in contact with your face. If not, don't press your phone directly against your skin.

5. Include healthy fats in your diet.

Fat has been demonized because we generalize that fat contributes to heart disease. But not all fats are bad. Good fats or omega-3 fatty acids reduce pro-inflammatory molecules that cause breakouts and acne. What foods provide omega-3? They include cold-water fatty fish and nuts and seeds. You can also consume dietary supplements.

6. Use clean makeup brushes.

Allowing makeup to stay on your beauty tools makes them prone to bacteria build-up. Unclean makeup brushes hold more bacteria than clean brushes, according to a study at Loyola Marymount University. Here's a simple routine for cleaning your brushes: Fill a mug with warm water and gentle shampoo. Swirl your brushes in the water and massage them to remove excess dirt. Rinse thoroughly and allow them to dry on a paper towel.

7. Get a good night's sleep.

Your skin repairs itself when you go to bed at night. Meanwhile, when you lack sleep, your body produces the stress hormone cortisol. Elevated cortisol increases inflammatory skin conditions. The more sleep you get, the better you'll look!
