To Train Your Body, Train Your Mind First
Most of us women who want to get stronger and lose weight focus on our outward appearance. Because that is the point, isn’t it? To be able to look in the mirror and feel proud of ourselves. But we so often miss the most important part of fitness or any goal we want to achieve as an aspiring or current pro cheerleader: Mindset.
We have to remind ourselves again and again that success begins with our thoughts. You may be struggling right now to be fitter, faster, and more confident. There is no magic pill that transforms your reality because you already have the key to do it - your mind. All you have to do now it tap into its power and use it the best possible way.
Know that you already have the answers.
Are you always looking for the next best thing to help you take action? Are you constantly searching for the best book, best workout video, best advice, best food? Yesterday you wanted this but tomorrow you yearn for something new - something that claims to be the ultimate solution.
Here’s what you should realize: You already know enough. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with always striving to become the best. But are you putting all that you have learned into action? Focus on one strategy to reach your pro cheerleader goal and do it well.
Stop thinking that “there’s always tomorrow.”
The magic happens right at this very moment. Tomorrow is another day. Tomorrow can definitely be a better day than today. However, there’s no way to tell if you get a chance at tomorrow. So, make today the best day of your life.
If you feel like not doing the work today, remind yourself that even the smallest things you do to move in the direction of your goals accumulate over time. You don’t have to be all motivated to take action. Motivation doesn’t always happen. Just show up today. Create something now. It doesn’t have to be extra special.
Refuse to participate in a problem.
Brian Tracy said, “The law of concentration states that whatever you dwell upon grows.” When things don’t happen the way you want them to, what do you do? Do you waste your entire day complaining and thinking about what went wrong? Or do you focus on a solution?
A problem you had yesterday won’t have control over your present moment if you don’t think it will. Participate only in positive thoughts, assumptions, and solutions. If you do, you create better situations.
I spoke with a client who told me that she had an argument with her sister and that ruined her entire day. She made the wrong food choices, skipped her workout, and displaced her negativity. This doesn’t have to happen to you.
Slow down your thoughts.
A mind that’s left unexamined is a mind that constantly worries and makes assumptions. Racing thoughts have a negative impact on your reality. They will exhaust your energy and create feelings of hopelessness. You’re bombarded options and judgments.
Give yourself a mental break. Slow down. Clear your thoughts. This will help you make better, wiser decisions. Sometimes you need to block and detach yourself from non-stop thought processes. You will come back stronger and act more positively.
Focus on your own progress.
Comparing your personal achievement with the achievements of others is the worst thing to do if you want to have a better body. Comparing is like fighting in a losing battle. Sure, looking up to the success of others helps.
You can tune into pro cheerleaders who’ve made it, read true stories, and join groups. But only be inspired. Exercise caution not to make their reality your reality. Instead, try to understand exactly how they achieved success. Lastly, put in mind that every journey is unique. Celebrate yours!
