Unexpected Lessons You Learn When Joining a Pro Cheer Audition

It's amazing how any situation can teach you so much about life if you allow yourself to learn from it. You know what I'm talking about here... Pro cheer auditions. As a former professional cheerleader who auditioned many times before I made my dream team, I gained some unexpected lessons which I'm compelled to share with you today. The road to becoming a pro cheerleader is indeed full of wisdom.

Never ever compare yourself to anyone.

I tell you, comparison is the mother of all disappointment. When you choose to focus on what you don't have that others have, you dull your own sparkle. The world is occupied by billions of people, which means that a lot of women can have skillsets that you can be envious about. And perfection? It's an illusion. Comparison will also prevent you from establishing meaningful friendships with people who can potentially become your cheer sisters.

Great things take time.

Sometimes we force ourselves to be able to accomplish something. For example, getting over stage fright, mastering the art of speaking in public, improving your high kicks, and more. You realize that no matter how hard you try to make something happen, more time is all that you need. Make peace with time. Have patience and stay consistent with your effort. Also, don't forget to enjoy the journey!

Emotions affect your performance.

Unfortunately, our emotions can work against you. Strong negative emotions cause muscle tension and a loss of coordination. They keep you from being fully present and giving your very BEST. To get your unwanted emotions under control, change your thoughts. Your thoughts may not change your actual situation (for example, when you're already on stage), but it will help you change how you perceive the situation. Pro cheer audition is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The chance to audition is in itself a blessing. âś¨

Don't take things personally.

If you don't make the team despite having given your 100%, the last thing you should do is take things personally. Stop manufacturing thoughts of I'm not good enough or I'm not worth it. Don't worry so much about what others think of you. Preoccupy yourself with wonderful opportunities in life. Find something productive to do. Perhaps you can share your pro cheer audition learning experience with others who haven't tried out yet, start a blog on professional cheerleading or dancing, or ask for feedback from a team director so you'll know what to improve for next year's audition.
