Ways Aspiring Pro Cheerleaders Can Squeeze Exercise Into Their Daily Routine

MaintainIing a high level of fitness is a number one priority for professional cheerleaders. These serious athletes need to be in tip-top shape to be able to execute routines flawlessly. One of the prerequisites to be a professional cheerleader is a fit and toned body. If a judge sees that you aren't physically fit, he or she knows that it isn't safe for you to be put in a cheerleading position where athleticism is more than necessary.

We all are aware that great results cannot be achieved overnight. If your goal is to be part of your dream NFL or NBA squad, you have to be in "audition prep mode" starting today.

How do you find time for exercise despite your busy schedule? Read these helpful tips to get started.

1. Take the stairs.

Taking the stairs instead of the elevator no matter where you're going gives you a free workout. Carrying your body weight up allows you to make use of your hip and thigh muscles. You can tone these muscles over time if you make climbing stairs a regular habit. Taking the stairs is also a great cardiovascular exercise since it immediately increases your heart rate. To burn more calories, walk up the stairs at a faster pace.

2. Do household chores.

Mopping the floor or doing the laundry may not feel like much, but any housework still counts as physical activity that can help you burn up to 250 calories in one hour. By doing household chores while you're not working out at the gym, you'll be able to make use of your different muscles. Just picture out the different movements involved - walking, bending, squatting, stair climbing, and more. While you're sweeping the floor, grab the opportunity to get into a plank position for a few minutes. This will improve your core strength and boost your metabolism.

3. Attend a dance class or your cheer team's prep clinics.

Dancing in a group isn't only a fun, total body workout that accelerates weight loss. It's also a way to practice becoming an effective group member since you get to meet new people. Look up everywhere for dance studios that offer classes on jazz and hip-hop. Most professional cheerleading squads incorporate these two dance styles into their routines. You can also visit your cheer team's website to check for available prep classes. This will help you learn their dance choreography and start building connections with people in the cheer industry.

4. Join an online cardio class.

If you need to skip the gym and stay at home instead, you can still workout by signing up for an online cardio class. Exercising at home can help you burn calories without having to be limited by crowds. You'll be able to complete an online class depending on the schedule that works best for you! Other benefits include having more space and more privacy.

Here at Pro Cheer Life, we offer a series of online classes that offer a full body cardio workout. Check out our POM FIT™ INTRO CLASS (Free for a LIMITED time) or POM FIT™: GAMEDAY1™ ($27.00 USD). These classes will give you a lot of cardiovascular training to build endurance for learning dance routines during the audition process. Since you're getting ready for the tryouts, it would be best to practice 5 times a week.

5. Track your steps daily.

According to FitBit, completing 10,000 steps daily lets you burn about 2,000 to 3,500 extra calories each week. 3,500 calories equals one pound of body fat. Tracking your steps using a fitness wearable or your smartphone app motivates you to push harder towards your goal. Without anything to track your activity, you won't be able to know how well you're progressing over the long term. Tracking your steps can also compel you to get more creative in finding opportunities to get moving.

6. Use a standing desk at work.

Sitting too much can make you fat. If you have a job that involves sitting for long periods of time, you might want to consider using a standing desk instead. Actively exercising on a regular basis won't be enough if most hours of the day are spent sitting. Your workout sessions at the gym or dance class cannot undo the damage brought about by a sedentary day. BBC News Magazine mentions that standing for 3 hours a day for 5 days burns 750 calories.

Stay On Track With Healthy Eating

Exercising isn't the only solution to get in shape for your professional cheerleading career. You also have to consistently eat right. Have a healthy balance of protein, carbohydrates and fats. Reduce your sugar intake! Always keep yourself hydrated.
