Ways To Stay Inspired As A Professional Cheerleader

As professional cheerleaders, we do our best to keep up with weekly evening rehearsals to prepare for the season, perform on game days, participate at other community events, and maintain our professional image. Not to mention, we need to manage our personal lives along with our jobs while staying in tip top shape (working out, eating right, etc).

When we try to meet demands and fulfill our obligations, it's easy to lose motivation. Sometimes, we feel unhappy and that makes us lose focus on our goals. Here are some ways on how to stay inspired through difficult times.

1. Challenge yourself.

Things become monotonous over time. Don't allow this to happen! Bring life into your daily routine by challenging yourself. For example, instead of doing the same workouts during your free time, try something different. You might want to try yoga or swimming. Other ideas for challenging yourself include setting the alarm earlier to slow down your morning routine. It'll help you de-stress.

2. Remember the WHY.

We can get so preoccupied with things that we forget the very reasons why we do them. It's important to pause every now and then and recall the personal meaning behind your commitment in your professional cheerleading career. At least one a week, set aside time to sit down with yourself and make a personal assessment of your goals. Ask yourself if you are consciously acting towards them through the things you do daily or are just mindlessly coasting through life.

3. Speak positive affirmations.

Words are very powerful. What you tell yourself can change your thoughts, actions, and entire life. Say positive affirmations out loud or write them down on sticky notes and place them somewhere you can easily see like your bathroom mirror. Whatever your worries or frustrations, turn them into positive statements. Say, "I am..." instead of "I will try."

4. Recall your accomplishments.

You've come a long way. The fact that you've made your dream cheer team already makes you a winner. Don't forget your successes especially in tough times. Reliving victorious memories brings back your motivation and puts you in a happy place. Doing this more often can help you produce more positive results which you'll be proud of.

5. Practice gratitude daily.

Gratitude is a powerful tool that inspires us to always give our best. The more we are grateful for the things we have, the more motivated we are to keep these blessings. There are a lot of things to be grateful for: The beautiful friendships and memories you've built in your cheerleading career, your current superb fitness level, and all the opportunities that came your way because of your cheerleading profession.

6. Surround yourself with inspiring people.

The people who you're with will either encourage you or bring you down. We've all heard of the popular saying, "You are who you hang out with." It's important to be with those who lift you up and make you realize life's goodness. These people are naturally kind and appreciative. Complainers should have no place in your life.
