What Should You Wear to a Pro Cheer Audition? (6 Tips to Keep in Mind)

The pro cheer/dance auditions of your dream squad are fast approaching and you still haven’t decided what to wear on the big day. There’s a lot in your wardrobe but you have no idea which combination will meet the judges' expectations. Worry no more, because I have compiled 6 tips to help you decide on the best attire so you can rock that audition with finesse.

1. Follow the dress code imposed

The best way to stay safe on preliminary auditions is to research ahead of time. Always visit your dream squad’s website for information and instructions on what to wear to the auditions.

2. Figure flattering color and apparel

If there is no imposed dress code, judges will consider the candidates with the healthiest healthy and fittest body. The best way to flaunt yours is to wear swim shorts or micro skirts instead of the common hot shorts. For your upper apparel, consider a padded bra or a halter top. If not, choose a sassy bikini top.

Shades of blue or purple might complement your figure. You can also go for white with the color lines of your dream squad’s team. If you want to help the judges envision you as part of your dream team, consider wearing your squad and team’s colors.

3. Matching top and bottom

It's not a must that your audition outfit should be bought as a pair. The key is to choose an upper and lower garment with a common element that will make them complement one another. For example, a purple bikini top and a fuchsia miniskirt would be perfect. Colors of the same spectrum and shade will match. Just put some of your desired tops beside the bottom you want and find a common element to them.

4. Go for what makes you comfortable and confident

Sometimes, fashion won't go well with comfort and confidence. If you dance at your best with confidence in leggings or joggers then go for them. (But then again, check review the recommendations by your team.) The same goes for loose shirts or gym wear. If the judges can’t see your slim figure, then compensate for it with your flexibility. Show them that you can perform every movement and routine required.

5. Personal style

Are you the Hip-Hop gal, the gym-addict, the rockstar, or are you the cheerleader type? If you get lost in the scramble of picking what to wear on the audition day, just wear what best describes your personality. Wear your own colors and your combination of apparel that are audition appropriate. As long as you feel your best then nobody can stop you.

However, refrain from wearing headwear and baggy pants when dancing. If the judges can’t see you perform with a smile or you look inappropriate, you might lose the chance of being chosen for your dream squad.

6. Accessorize a little and make sure it won’t fall off

If you want to get creative then this is the perfect time to get working. Some audition outfits are adorned with glitter rhinestones which can look too dazzling and busy. Judges will find that unappealing. Instead, keep the sparkles balanced and to a minimum, being careful that they don't turn into a highlight. A glittery belt, bracelet, or hoop earrings will do. Just don’t wear everything altogether. When you accessorize, make sure that it won’t fly off because that will create a distraction and result in minus points.

There are a lot of pro cheer audition outfit options to choose from and you have all the freedom to pick and combine. But despite your wide variety of choices, it all comes down to what’s audition-appropriate and what the judges will ask of you to wear. Most importantly, consider if that outfit makes you feel comfortable and confident!
