What To Eat To Keep Your Skin Healthy
Beauty reflects health. As women, the first thing we notice to have an idea of how one cares for herself is her skin. While makeup does enhance one’s appearance, the best measure of one’s skin health is observation without the use of cosmetics.
The question is, how can you make your skin healthy without the frequent use of skincare products? It’s through eating foods that are anti-inflammatory and have little to no sugar. Read this 5-list article to find out what these skin health-boosting foods are. You’ll also find below various ways on how to prepare them for everyday consumption.
1. Fatty fish
Salmon, anchovies, pilchards, trouts, herring, mackerels, and tunas are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. This oil keeps your skin healthy by maintaining its suppleness, moisture, and thickness. Fatty fishes can be prepared in any way for your daily meals.
Smaller varieties like pilchards, anchovies, and herring can be fried in extra virgin olive oil and paired with quinoa. While bigger fish varieties like tuna, salmon, and trout can be steamed and prepared with a green salad or made into sandwiches with low-carb buns.
2. Carrots
This tuber vegetable is high in beta-carotene - an organic compound that helps protect your skin against the sun’s radiation while maintaining its healthy appearance. There are so many ways you can consume carrots. The most popular beverages among health buffs and the beauty conscious are carrot juices and smoothies.
As a snack, carrots can be steamed or air fried. But if you want to eat carrots as part of your main meals, they are best served with steak and asparagus.
3. Tomatoes
Like carrots, tomatoes are also low in sugar. Yet, they are known to help against skin cancer, stimulate collagen production, and fight cellular damage. To eat tomatoes, you can slice them and use them as green salad toppings. Don’t remove the seeds as well. They are rich in vitamin C which helps in your body’s production of collagen.
In other recipes, tomatoes can be baked with garlic and chive toppings. Others sautee them with chicken breasts. But my most favorite of them all? Homemade tomato sauces. They’re healthier than the store-bought varieties and add immense flavor to your meals as a condiment.
4. Kiwis
We know oranges are fruits that are high in vitamin C. But kiwis even have a higher ascorbic than them. Despite being a fruit, kiwis are low in sugar making them one of the best sweet choices that help you prevent acne.
Kiwis are also rich in antioxidants that help eliminate free radicals in your skin cells. Because kiwi is a fruit, you can turn it into a juice or smoothie. Eating them raw by peeling and slicing them is also a good choice.
5. Avocados
Avocados are high in vitamin E - a fat-soluble compound known to keep our skin smooth and young. They also have lutein and zeaxanthin - two carotenoids that can help in improving a person’s skin tone. This fruit is one of the most versatile consumables for healthy skin as you can prepare it in a smoothie, sandwich, egg bake, toast, or salad.
You can also eat an avocado raw. Sprinkle a little stevia on top of a half-sliced fruit and scoop the contents out for an easy snack. If you want another topping, unsweetened plain greek yogurt is a good choice.
Just remember to eat the avocadoes as soon as possible once bought because they get spoiled really fast. Even a ripe avocado expires 3-5 days when left in the fridge
Now that you’ve learned the foods you should eat to boost your skin health, make sure to do a little research on the recipes to prepare them. Have a fun weekend!
