Why Preparation Is Extremely Important for Pro Cheer Audition Success
Preparation. As a former professional cheerleader, I would say that preparation is everything when it comes to succeeding in the auditions. Some women make the team on their first try, while others take years before earning the spot. The difference? Preparation.
Today, Pro Cheer Life will dig deeper into the subject of preparation. How does it boost an aspiring pro cheerleader's chances of meeting her goals? We share three compelling reasons.
Reasons Why Being Prepared Matters š
1. Preparation allows you to anticipate possible challenges.
There are many ways preparation helps you avoid problems before they happen. One example is getting your audition attire ready. You know that people are going to be pretty busy during the dance audition season. They'll be purchasing their attire at the last minute. If you do this, you might encounter problems such as the wrong size and lack of options. You know that your audition outfit is part of the judging criteria. Therefore, you must take it seriously.
2. Preparation helps you identify your weaknesses and turn them into strengths.
When you prepare, you do the work. While you're doing the work, you're able to evaluate personal limitations that may sabotage your actual audition performance.
Here's a common scenario: Some aspiring cheerleaders are overconfident because they have cheered in high school. Because of that, they skip the research process and make wrong assumptions about their hair, makeup, and apparel. I remember coming to the auditions wearing a ponytail! NOT COOL. (That was clearly one of the reasons why I didn't make the team that year.) š§
Another situation is when an aspiring pro cheerleader thinks she has what it takes to dance on stage. But if she joins local dance classes, she might just realize how much she needs to improve her Hip-Hop dance technique, which is a plus in professional cheerleading!
3. Preparation boosts your self-confidence.
Give yourself a confidence boost by preparing ahead of time. I've witnessed pro cheer candidates stutter and hesitate in giving out answers during the interview portions, and candidates who dance shyly. They could not maximize their big moment because, at the back of their minds, they knew they lacked preparation. Perhaps they went over a particular audition aspect only once and never invested ample time for mastery. Don't cram, ladies!!!
