Audition Process Breakdown
Preliminary Round – April 26, 2026
Candidates will check in between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., have a headshot taken, and warm up independently. At 1:00 p.m., dancers will learn two technical combinations featuring jumps, leaps, kicks, turns, and choreography. These combinations are performed in small groups for the judging panel. Semifinalists are announced the same day.
Semifinal Round – April 26, 2026
Selected dancers will learn a routine consisting of 12–14 eight counts. Candidates perform the routine in small groups for the judges, who evaluate technical precision, performance quality, confidence, and overall presence. Finalists are announced following this round.
Final Round – May 2, 2026
Finalists receive new choreography via email in advance and must arrive fully prepared. They are also required to perform a one-minute solo in jazz, pom, lyrical, or hip hop. Costumes are not permitted. Candidates must remain in audition attire, though pants or poms may be used if the style calls for it.
The day includes formal interviews, filming with the production team, rehearsals, solo performances, and group presentations of all audition material. Candidates advancing to Final Look will be notified by email between May 2 and May 3.
Final Look – May 4, 2026
This final evaluation focuses on teamwork. Previously learned choreography is set into formations that mirror game-day routines and sideline groupings, allowing judges to assess chemistry, adaptability, and spatial awareness within a team environment.

For prelims and semifinals, wear fitted, supportive athletic tops and dance shorts. Lions colors are not required during these rounds. Dance sneakers are highly recommended.
For the finals dance portion, Lions-branded colors are strongly preferred. Interview attire must be business professional.
Arrive camera-ready with full makeup and styled hair worn down. Hair should complement your features and not cover your face. All tattoos must be covered, and jewelry removed except engagement or wedding rings.
Eligibility & Requirements
Candidates must:
- Be 21 years old by July 1, 2026 (no exceptions)
- Be a high school graduate or hold a GED
- Be eligible to work in the United States (no sponsorships)
- Provide proof of age and identification
- Have reliable transportation
A valid passport is required upon employment. Cheerleaders may not perform for other professional or college teams and must sign confidentiality, likeness, non-disparagement, and noncompete agreements.
Skills & Commitment
Dancers should demonstrate strong technique, including leaps, kicks, and double or triple pirouettes. Acro skills such as aerials are a plus. Judges look for showmanship, elevated confidence, polished performance quality, public speaking ability, and professionalism.
Practices are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning in May and continue through the football season. Attendance at all home games, including preseason and playoffs, is required. Additional appearances, seminars, photo shoots, and preseason training sessions are scheduled throughout the year.
The role is part-time and paid hourly, but it requires a full-year contract commitment.
For serious dancers who are prepared, polished, and ready to represent both on and off the field, 2026 could be your year to step onto the sidelines in Detroit.
