4 Preparation Strategies That Help You Make Your Pro Cheer Team

One piece of advice that I like giving aspiring pro cheerleaders and dancers is this: Stand out while blending in. It means that a candidate should groom herself in a way that makes her look like she's already part of her dream team. But at the same time, her natural features, energy, and dance skills should stand out.

You are already fully aware that to achieve this, you need to work on several aspects about yourself. This includes your fitness and nutrition, dancing, knowledge of your team, and more.

In today's article, I'm going to reveal four solid strategies that had helped me produce better results on the big day. No matter what you're working on, let these tips guide you.

1. Prepare far ahead of time.

You may be thinking of joining an audition which will take place a year from now. Now, remember this: Starting the preparation process as early as possible gives you more time to tweak and adjust your technique. You also have more time to test new products on yourself that will enhance your appearance on the big day. For example, tanning creams or teeth whiteners.

2. Build your stamina.

Stamina refers to the strength and energy you have that will allow you to sustain any activity for long periods of time. When you have low stamina, you'll easily run out of breath during auditions. The benefit of building your stamina is that you also get to improve your physique. Regular exercise is the best way to boost stamina. Great exercises include HIIT, stair climbing, weight lifting, and swimming. Yoga and meditation also help!

3. Be sure to get feedback.

Never go to an audition without taking the opportunity to receive feedback from qualified people. You could be thinking that your dancing is perfect when in reality, it needs some tweaking. Sometimes, it's the things we often ignore that are important! The best avenue to receive constructive feedback is in a pro cheer audition or dance audition workshop. Sadly, not all aspiring cheerleaders consider this a beneficial experience. I wrote a blog post previously on why you should be joining prep classes. Be sure to read it.

4. Bring your A-game even during preparation.

The judges will always be watching during auditions. You are being assessed from the moment you submit your application. Remember that each moment is an audition on the audition day. So, at home, whenever you're practicing your entrance, your 30-second introduction, and dance moves, imagine that the judges are looking at you. That way, you get into the best version of yourself!
