5 Mindset Shifts You Can Make for Healthy Eating
Getting into a "healthy eating" mindset is a huge challenge for many women who are still starting with their audition prep journey. This is especially true if you have been used to eating junk food, high-sugar beverages, and stress-eating. Let me share with you a secret: The key to healthy eating starts in the mind.
To change your habits for the best, you need to wrap your mind around the benefits of a healthier lifestyle. Of course, aside from the fact that it improves your physique, eating better reduces your risk of disease, gives you clearer skin, and enhances your focus and mental clarity. You also have more energy to power through your workouts!
In today's article, we're going to talk about five essential mindset shifts to a healthier self. Are you ready? Keep reading.
1. Become aware of your "triggers."
First things first. Ask yourself, "What sets me up for poor food choices?" It could be one or more of many things - a stressful career, your reaction to stress, a lack of sleep, peer pressure, or special occasions! Understanding your common triggers allows you to do something about them.
2. Focus on what you want.
We often sabotage ourselves by expecting negative things to happen. You cannot have a healthier body if you keep thinking about gaining weight or avoiding those sweets on your way home. Whatever it is that worries you pertaining to food, stop. Focus your mental energy on what you desire. Visualize the pro cheer physique you want. A leaner, stronger self.
3. Strive for progress and not perfection.
Perfection is not just a myth, but it's also a form of punishment. The truth is, there is no such thing as a perfect diet. Sometimes, we feel like treating ourselves to a slice of cake or a guilty pleasure especially when we're traveling to a new place - and there's nothing wrong with that! The key is to strive for excellence with the goal to improve at least 1% each day. Isn't that a great move?

4. Believe in abundance!
If you believe in scarcity, you won't be able to appreciate resources that are readily available to help you succeed in your audition prep journey. Look around and realize that you have an endless list of foods you love that love your body back. Feel free to get creative with your meal prep. There are free health and fitness articles, books, and videos that offer valuable tips.
5. Know what your next meal will be.
You may think that planning what to eat is hard, but it really isn't. You don't even need to stress about a week's worth of meals - just know what to eat next. This allows you to be intentional with your food choices rather than pick something out of hunger and regretting later.
One of the things I like to do is create a mental list of healthy or "better" foods and snacks I can have wherever I go. For example, when I'll be meeting with a friend at a coffee shop, I know that I can avoid certain items on the menu that contain more sugar - or I'll have to ask them to kindly reduce the sweetness of my drink.
Final Thoughts
Last but definitely not least, learn to trust yourself. Believe that you can make better choices. Set reasonable fitness goals. And the next time you make a good choice, stick with it. Eventually, it becomes a habit.
