Practicing Patience Boosts Your Capacity for Pro Cheer Audition Success

Patience is something that we don't get to practice on a daily basis. This truth applies to everyone - aspiring pro cheerleaders included. In this age where we expect things to get done in less time, we create the illusion that success can happen overnight. A lack of patience isn't just stressful to you (as someone who trains herself for a future audition), but it also leads to procrastination as you start to feel discouraged.

Remember that THE BEST THINGS TAKE TIME - a fit and strong body, great dancing, and confidence. In this article, I share ways on how you can cultivate patience to increase your chances for success:

Identify areas that need more patience.

First off, you need to be completely honest with yourself. What are those aspects of your pro cheer audition prep that you're most frustrated with? Is it your dance technique? Flexibility? Workout consistency? Take note of these areas. If you were to be more patient with them, find what motivates you to do so. Patience alone won't work. Perhaps you need to reward yourself a little, take breaks, or connect with people who can give you feedback.

Learn how to stay calm.

Relaxation is the state of being free from tension and anxiety. Being able to relax is a skill we must master. Imagine being all guilty and worried each time you miss a workout or gave in to your indulgences. The greater the stress, the greater the opportunity to stay calm. Take slow, deep breaths. Stop entertaining the worst possible scenarios! When you learn how to calm yourself, you will realize that you have more mental and emotional resources to excel through obstacles.

Stop doing unimportant things.

Every aspiring pro cheerleader has a list of distractions that prevent her from working on her goals. One of the most effective ways to develop calm and patience is to get rid of unimportant stuff. I encourage you to examine your daily routine and identify factors that take up your time. Is this social media? television? Mindless online shopping? Whatever that is, take a look at how you actually spend and waste your time.

Conclusion

Time is your greatest asset and being able to spend it wisely, stay calm under stress, and be honest about the things you're impatient with will help you progress. Think long-term and make steady progress day by day.
