6 Common Barriers to Reaching Your Pro Cheer Audition Goals (And How to Overcome Them)
To become a professional cheerleader is no easy endeavor. There are a lot of personal transformations an aspiring pro cheerleader has to undergo before the auditions.
You have to practice smiling in front of thousands. Workout to take your body beyond its limits of strength, flexibility, endurance, and agility. A healthy diet to maintain and the cravings to decline. All just to hone your dancing skills and fit the expected figure.
Sometimes it’s just too much and you slowly lose the drive to continue. Worse, you give up on your goal and settle for something else, and most of the time you don’t even know why or don’t even start at all. Well, here’s why and how to win over these barriers.
1. You’re contented of living in your comfort zone
Life is an adventure. In order to go to places you’ve never been, you must be prepared to do things you’ve never done. Pro cheerleaders wake up early, work out intensely, and eat carefully.
If these things are so hard to do, you can live outside your comfort zone by taking little steps one at a time. Start by eating healthy this week and sleeping early!
“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” - Lao Tzu
2. Taking big steps altogether
Doing things altogether can be overwhelming. It can exhaust you faster and knock your motivation out. Take simple steps and gradually increase your pace.
When you’ve done something simple like eating healthy and sleeping early from #1, then wake up early and start working out. Don’t do everything together in a short time
3. Focusing on the end result before even starting
If you look at the bigger picture, you get scared especially if it’s an unfamiliar image. Then the “what if’s?” come rushing in. “What if I don’t pass the weigh-in?” You don’t know that yet.
To get over this, simply don’t think about failing and only worry about what exercises will you add to your workout or what pre-workout foods to eat later.
4. Negative thinking easily takes hold in your head
This is true, like the fear of leaving your comfort zone or the fear of failing without even starting also holds you back. You’re not a fish trying to climb a tree. You’re an empowered woman who’s capable of anything.
Adopt a positive mindset. Be brave and believe you’ll be accepted when the auditions come. Stop thinking that you’ll get rejected, because you don’t know that yet. Don’t listen to your demons and don’t listen to any pessimistic people.
5. You make excuses
Just because you can make excuses doesn’t mean you should make excuses. When there’s free time, utilize it for working out or honing your dance skills. When there’s an opportunity to eat healthily, grab it.
To avoid making excuses, stop asking questions on why you should do it. A goal is a goal and there are certain things to be done to achieve them. Focus on doing them and don’t stall.
6. Consistency isn’t in your habit
This is the culmination and end result of all your barriers. Once they’re in, out goes your potential for consistency.
To overcome this, set alarm times for sleeping, waking up, and working out. Put a motivation quote on your phone’s wallpaper, laptop, or your room wall. Always remind yourself of your goal.
In the meantime, focus on achieving your audition goals instead of the audition itself. Practice and hone your dancing skills. Workout, be healthy in both mind and body. Once you do this, I guarantee you that you’ll crush that audition.
