6 Secrets to Staying Fit During the Holidays
Stuffed turkey, gingerbread, puddings, and fruitcakes. These are some highly tempting foods to eat during the holidays, and you might even be craving them right now. However, you may worry because you have a physique to maintain.
It's normal when people tend to overindulge during the holidays. However, now is the time to be with your loved ones and celebrate together, so don't hesitate to enjoy the holiday even when you want to stay fit. The good news is that you’ll be able to do it through simple strategies.
1. Walk, walk, walk
Walking is a great way to compensate for the energy gained when eating. It's a less strenuous activity, but it will surely help you burn calories. Take a tour of the park and enjoy the snow or Christmas decorations. Take the stairs as you stroll around the mall, and move around for at least 10 minutes after every hour you sit.
2. Keep your workout routine, if possible
It would be best to stay active even during the holidays in order to stay fit, so it's best to keep your regular routine. However, this might be the only time you can hang out with your loved ones, so adjust your schedule accordingly. For example, instead of normally working out for 1 hour, you can adjust it to 30 minutes.
3. Drink lots of water
Staying hydrated tricks your mind into being less hungry. Taking a large glass of water before eating can help lessen the amount of food that you'll consume because your body thinks it's already full. Drinking lots of water also helps prevent a holiday hangover.
4. Invite a buddy to exercise
It's incredibly difficult to stay committed to exercise during winter and holidays. You may be tempted to make excuses like going to a friend's house or shopping. So if you invite a friend, you'll be more pressured because they'll remind you to work out with them. It's also more fun to do these activities with a buddy because you have someone to talk to.
5. Participate in seasonal activities
Participating in winter activities is a creative strategy to stay active. Invite your family, friends, and co-sisters to ski or ice skating. You can also do horse-drawn sleigh rides, snowmobiling, and hiking. Remember to prioritize your safety. Make sure that you're prepared before performing these activities to avoid accidents and cold weather hazards.
6. Indulge during the holiday, not throughout the season
Enjoying lots of food in one day doesn't really affect your health plan. The problem is when you start to make it a daily routine. If you make a pattern of overeating from Thanksgiving until the end of the year, it will be harder for you to get back on track once the new year starts. So enjoy while it lasts, and workout to burn the energy you've consumed once the party is over.
Conclusion
Trust your body. If you're used to having a proper diet, your body will tell you if you're already overeating. Next, counterbalance the overindulgence by constantly moving. Then finally, return to your normal routine once the holiday ends.
