7 Ways to Stay on Top of Your Pro Cheer Audition Prep
Staying on top of your audition goals isn’t easy - especially when you’re also dealing with many other things. This is what most aspiring pro cheerleaders experience. But can I tell you that you can prioritize your audition preparation no matter how busy you are? It’s all a matter of staying focused and maximizing your time.
Here are 7 ways to do it:
1. Focus on 1-3 goals at a time.
Avoid spreading yourself too thin. Start focusing on at least one goal that’s most important to you. It’s probably an area that needs more attention - such as your fitness, dancing, or flexibility.
2. Write down what you need to do the evening beforehand.
It’s easy to lose track of what needs to be done if you don’t write them down. Whether you need to research your team or start looking at audition outfits, make a note for it on your calendar or note-taking app. If it helps, set an alarm.

3. Take control of your day.
Be in the driver’s seat. Don’t let extra requests or last-minute invitations shake things up. Except for emergency situations, take responsibility for your schedule. That means learning to say NO to people.
4. Protect yourself from getting distracted.
Distractions come in different forms. These include your bad habits, procrastination, social media, and even negative thinking. Before you start your dance practice or workout session, make sure that your environment and thoughts are distraction-free.
5. Seek mentorship for guidance.
There isn’t just one, but multiple areas, that you should work on to be the “total package” on the big day. You may not be able to connect with a former professional cheerleader, but you can certainly find a specific mentor for fitness, dancing, healthy eating, and beauty. Mentors help you focus on the right techniques and avoid unnecessary mistakes.
6. Make use of dead time.
Dead time refers to those moments when you’re waiting in line or traveling. You could be spending your idle minutes reading a pro cheer audition prep ebook or checking out available dance classes in your place.
7. Give yourself a shorter time frame.
When you’re up against a deadline, suddenly your focus increases. You do everything in your power to get that goal completed. Set a shorter time frame for audition prep tasks. For example, instead of giving yourself 1 week to be able to sign-up for a gym membership, make it 3 days. Hard deadlines push you to act!
