Beyond Weight Loss: 6 Other Benefits of Exercise

Exercising is one of the best activities humans can include in their daily routine. It increases one’s stamina, strength, endurance, flexibility, and tones the muscles. Despite all the pros, knowing these benefits may not be enough to encourage some women to work out regularly, including current and aspiring pro cheerleaders who should be fit for the arena.

Are there more advantages to exercising than the ones mentioned above? The answer is yes. Exercise can also benefit your beauty, life as an adult, mental health, and capabilities. Find out what they are and other important points to remember below.

1. You feel happier

Working out suppresses the release of the stress hormone cortisol. At the same time, it promotes the release of dopamine, adrenaline, endorphins, and endocannabinoids - brain chemicals associated with happiness and confidence.

With regular exercise, you’ll find it easier to be happy. This makes you less prone to feeling depressed and anxious. You can also use exercising as a way to deal with life’s disappointments such as audition rejection.

2. Increased productivity

Exercising regularly raises your energy levels by increasing your metabolism. This allows you to accomplish more tasks daily. If you struggle to do all your audition prep and other personal responsibilities in one day, start by finishing a light workout routine every day.

Then, progress to doing medium and intense workouts. The more difficult the workout routine you complete in one day, the higher your energy level rises. You’ll notice that no matter how hard or many your tasks are, you’re not easily fatigued.

3. Healthy and young-looking skin

The most noticeable effect of following a fitness routine is the toning and strengthening of muscles. But did you know that it also makes your skin younger and healthier? This is because strong muscles provide support for your skin making it more elastic and firmer.

Remember to always wipe your sweat or take a shower after a workout session. Sweat mixes with dust and other impurities which could cause acne. If you decide to take a shower, start with lukewarm or medium hot water and end with cold temperatures to cool your muscles.

4. Reduced risk of an illness

There are many ways how working out fights illnesses. Some of them include the flushing out of bacteria in your respiratory system, increasing body temperature to prevent bacteria from growing, and better circulation of white blood cells to fight infections.

As a result, you’ll have fewer sick days in a year. Pro cheer squads require their members to perform at all of their team’s home games and attend a variety of events including rehearsals. Keeping your immune system at its peak condition is a surefire way to fulfill your career as a pro cheerleader.

5. Increased bone density

We know that working out puts stress on our muscles and promotes growth. However, it also increases bone density providing support for your muscles and offers better protection for your internal organs.

Pro cheerleading is a sport and injuries can happen. By having dense bones, you’re less prone to incurring sprains and fractures from high jumps and stunts. To have dense bones, make sure you’re taking in healthy amounts of calcium and vitamin D while staying fit.

6. Better memory

Along with increased energy levels, exercising increases oxygen flow to the brain. It stimulates the growth of brain cells allowing the better connection of neurons. As a result, you’ll have heightened focus, better memory storing, and retention.

Having better memory is beneficial to both aspiring and current pro cheerleaders because it helps them remember dance routines, choreographies, and techniques.

Accompany regular workouts with a healthy diet, supplementation, and good sleeping habits to maximize your fitness benefits. Exercising is not effective for you if you overindulge in junk foods, sleep poorly, or lack vitamin intake.
