Build Your Pro Cheer Self-Esteem With These 5 Hobbies

Aspiring and current pro cheerleaders aren’t exempted from criticism made by others regarding their cheering and dance performances. Because of this, some members of the community may doubt themselves and others feel insecure. To prevent yourself from being in this situation, you need to have strong self-esteem.

There are many ways to build self-esteem. The common ones include being kind to yourself, handling constructive criticism like a boss, and accepting that nobody is perfect. But the best advice one can give you is to do what makes you happy in the form of hobbies. If you don’t have any hobby yet or are looking for a new one to enjoy, take some ideas from this list.

1. Playing puzzles

Trying to complete a puzzle pushes your brain to its limit in terms of intellect and emotion. By playing puzzles regularly, you’re training your mind and heart to handle any kind of pressure life throws at you. And the harder the puzzles you’re solving, the more satisfying it is once you’ve found the answer.

2. Volunteering in social works

Helping others doesn’t mean you have to give money or your stuff. The act of exerting effort to ease the lives of others is enough to make you feel happy and worthy. Join a local philanthropic organization and volunteer to carry goods around or be a goodwill ambassador.

3. Artwork

Artwork is a hobby that teaches you to appreciate your creativity and yourself as a person. You can make a hobby out of painting, drawing, embroidery, or knitting even sell your craft to fund your pro cheer career.

4. Stand up comedy classes

This is a hobby best for aspiring or current pro cheerleaders who want to develop their public speaking skills. It also fights stress, the one problem we often face. By learning how to draw your natural humor out, you become more confident to face crowds, answer judges clearly, or dance without feeling awkward in an arena.

5. Martial arts

One way to know if a person has low self-esteem is when they tend to avoid confrontation even if they’re abused or disrespected blatantly. While avoiding a fight is good, a lot of people admit they should’ve fought back. Yet they didn’t because they aren’t confident to defend themselves or those they care for.

Learning martial arts will help with that and there’s a lot of disciplines for your preferred style. There’s Aikido if you want to use an opponent’s power against them or Krav Maga to incapacitate your attacker in life-threatening situations. Another good thing about martial arts as a hobby? It’s also a physical exercise that you can add to your pro cheer fitness routine.

Before you choose a hobby from this list, make sure that your choice is something you would enjoy doing regularly for a long time. Because selecting an activity that you’re sure to be bored doing soon enough would be a waste of time and money.
