Dear Aspiring Pro Cheerleader, Here Are Top 3 Reasons to Love Failure
My experience in professional cheerleading, from YEARS of preparation to auditions, has taught me one important lesson: It’s better to FAIL again and again than to never try at all.
When I first auditioned for an NFL dance team, I didn’t plan ahead and I never did the research that was required. I thought that my background in dancing and high school cheerleading was enough. But I was wrong. Though I made it to the final round, I was not chosen for one of the 28 spots.
So… I had to TRY AGAIN not twice, but three times!!!
I’m GLAD that I did because, on my third try, I MADE THE TEAM as a San Diego Charger Girl. :)
Why am I sharing this personal story? I want you to make your dream team, whether that team is in the NFL, NBA, or another league. And as you have already guessed, I'm giving you this piece of advice... LEARN TO LOVE FAILURE.
Here are three reasons why you should embrace failure if you want to succeed...
1. Failure helps you identify the things that matter most.
Like me, a lot of audition candidates don’t get chosen on the first attempt. Often, they realize that they need to improve on certain aspects. Maybe they lacked dance preparation, wore the wrong audition attire, or never took public speaking lessons despite their lack of confidence. Failure gives you a newfound knowledge - now you know what to focus on so that you come prepared next time.
2. Failure teaches you to humble yourself.
Before you can actually improve, you need to admit to yourself that you are imperfect. Being humble gives you a lot of room for success because you don’t get over-confident. I don’t mean that you have to be pessimistic - that’s a bad thing! Instead, I want you to really explore and dig deeper into the world of professional cheerleading - to learn all that you can, take time to prepare, and discipline yourself.

3. Failure makes you an optimistic woman.
Optimism is an essential belief system to carry not just in your professional cheerleading journey, but your entire life. An optimistic woman is able to find opportunities and seek wisdom no matter how bad the situation. Staying negative for days, weeks, or months after the judges said “NO” steals all the time and energy you could invest to become stronger.
Now Turn Failure Into Fuel
Maybe this is your first time to be able to prepare for a future pro cheer audition, or maybe you participated this year but failed.
Remember that whatever the result you get, is not the final result - unless you say so! Challenge yourself starting today by taking responsibility for your dreams. Stay in a mindset of learning. Work on the things that you can control. Let go of the past (habits, memories of failing, missed opportunities) and only move forward.
