For the Aspiring Pro Cheerleader: How to Believe in Yourself to Achieve Your Goals
The truth is that each audition experience will always feel new. You will always get butterflies in your stomach. Doubts about yourself can creep up. Here’s one piece of advice that will help you succeed regardless of your dream in life: Believe in yourself.
A lot of women who want to be pro cheerleaders don’t get to be pro cheerleaders because they don’t think they can. Believing in yourself is essential to success. If you don’t believe that you can achieve something, you will never put in the required effort to make it work.
Here are the reasons why you need to believe in yourself:
- You build self-confidence.
- You stay inspired to do what needs to be done each day.
- You learn to accept failure as a possibility.
- You learn to deal with negativity.
- You focus on what you can control.

Act as if you’re already there.
To manifest what you want, which is to be a professional cheerleader, you must act like a professional cheerleader. You should adopt healthy eating habits, have a fitness routine, actively participate in dance classes, and talk like a pro cheerleader. You get the idea. By acting as if you’ve already achieved something, you are training your subconscious mind to believe in yourself more.
Bombard yourself with positive self-talk.
There are tons of messages that play over and over in our minds each moment. These internal messages influence the way we feel about ourselves. The problem is that most of us entertain discouraging thoughts and these thoughts fuel hopelessness. Starting today, practice this: Whenever a negative thought crosses your mind, combat it by speaking positive affirmations out loud. Make it a habit to say something good to yourself as you wake up in the morning. “If they were able to make it, I can.” “I’m proud of myself for pursuing this goal.” “I have the knowledge and tools to make this work!”
Focus on the small steps while holding on to the long-term goal.
Most people obsess over the long-term outcome that they ignore the tiny actions that need to be done each day, consistently. Shift your focus to this very moment. What can you do today to bring you closer to your pro cheer goal? By taking the small steps and being consistent with those steps, you build the self-confidence and skills to get the results you desire.
