Holiday Beauty Advice: 5 Vitamins and Nutrients for Healthy Skin

Have you already planned to keep yourself healthy this holiday season?

One of the ways to show your body some love is to invest in skin care - by prioritizing foods that contain vitamins and minerals. While you deserve to celebrate with our loved ones, you also need to make sure that your body gets what it needs at this time of year.

I've made a list of essential nutrients (and foods) that nourish your skin during the holidays. The holiday season brings a lot of stress that can take a toll on your pro cheer looks. Take advantage of the vital nutrients below!

1. Vitamin C

Also known as ascorbic acid, vitamin C doesn't only protect you from the flu this season, but it also helps your skin regenerate. It also boosts the production of substances that keep your skin looking firm.

Best foods with vitamin C: Oranges, bell peppers, kale, strawberries

2. Vitamin E

Vitamin E is another micronutrient that's well-known to boost skin health. It protects your skin from free radicals as a result of environmental stressors and air contaminants. Vitamin E will also calm your skin. Luckily, vitamin E can be found in many foods.

Best foods with vitamin E: Broccoli, spinach, kiwifruit, sunflower seeds, almonds, lobsters

3. Zinc

One of the best ways that zinc helps your skin is that it fights acne flare-ups. Stress and unhealthy sweet treats can trigger acne this holiday season. If you're trying to achieve clearer skin in preparation for next year's pro cheer audition, be sure to eat foods that are high in zinc.

Best foods with zinc: Ground beef, shellfish, cashew nuts, eggs

4. Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 fatty acids are incredibly essential for your skin. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), a type of omega-3, keeps your skin hydrated and delays the aging process. If you're worried about acne, EPA will reduce its risk.

Best foods with omega-3:  Salmon, tuna, sardines, chia seeds, walnuts

5. Vitamin A

Vitamin A supports skin health by stimulating skin cell production and slowing down aging. When applied topically, vitamin A reduces clogged pores. Be sure to include foods in your weekly holiday menu that contain vitamin A.

Best foods with vitamin A: Beef liver, salmon, butter, hardboiled eggs, spinach, grapefruit
