9 Habits to Stay Fit (for Aspiring Pro Cheerleaders)
1. Make sleep a top priority.
Sleep affects fitness in a way that it allows your body to heal after a workout. Without quality sleep, you wouldn't have the energy, strength, and focus to push through your exercises.
2. Replace rice with low-carb veggies.
You may find rice delicious, but it's loaded with carbohydrates. Carbs spike your blood glucose, which promotes fat storage and increases your cravings. Low-carb alternatives like cauliflower and broccoli make you feel full while keeping your blood glucose stable.
3. Eat whole foods.
The reason why whole foods support your fitness is that they don't contain additives like sugars and starches. Most importantly, whole foods are a great way to meet your vitamin and mineral needs.
4. Practice slow eating.
Eating slowly means that you take the time to chew your food. As a result, you're giving your body enough time to to pick up on your satiety signals. You also tend to consume fewer calories when you slow down your eating pace.
5. Do a "bonus" exercise during the day.
On top of your regular, scheduled workouts, find opportunities to move throughout the day. Take the stairs instead of the elevator at work. Park your car far from your destination so you can walk. Do 100 jumping jacks a day.
6. Wear a fitness tracker.
Being able to keep tabs on how many steps you take per day, the calories you burn, and the number of times you stand, helps you to be more conscientious of your fitness.
7. Spend more time outdoors.
Being outside more often means that you get to move more. Exposing yourself to sunlight each day promotes fat burning. Aim for 20 minutes of natural morning sunlight on a daily basis.
8. Don't stress yourself out.
When you're stressed out, your body releases cortisol - a hormone that increases your appetite and promotes fat storage in your abdominal area. Make sure to keep your stress under control. That includes your workouts. Overdoing your workouts also raise cortisol levels.
9. Let overall wellness be your goal.
